Laenir was born in Tirion. He lived there, enjoying the light of Telperion and Laurelin with his kinsfolk.  But then Melkor started to execute his dark plans. Valinor darkened and Laenir followed his kin to exile. Laenir claims that he did not take part in the kinslaying, and that is likely to be true, since he was reluctant to leave and he arrived the havens when the battle was almost over. Laenir has also said, that at first, he thought that the Telerin Elves attacked them to prevent their leaving.

He did not have a place in the boats, so he followed Fingolfin trough Grinding Ice.

 

When Turgon built Gondolin, Laenir searched refuge there. He was an honourable member of the House of the Golden Flower and Glorfindel was his chief. When Gondolin was destructed, Laenir fought in the Great Market of Gondolin. Many of his friends died that day. Laenir escaped the city and witnessed Glorfindel's battle against a balrog. When his chieftain plummeted down the ravine with the balrog, Laenir wept, for he was greatly saddened by the death of his leader. 

Laenir then exiled to Sirion and lived among the refugees of Gondolin and Doriath. He lived there until the fall of Beleriand. Then he joined Galadriel's followers and travelled to Eriador and soon found himself in Harlindon where he made his residence, under the rule of Gil-Galad. Laenir lived there for some time. He would also travel the lands of Eriador, making his way to Eregion and later to Imladris.

Laenir was not present in Eregion, when Sauron revealed himself. Laenir was still living in Harlindon. He followed Gil-Galad to the Battle of Dagorlad. When Sauron was defeated and The Ring was lost, Laenir returned to Imladris. He grieved the death of Gil-Galad, who was the last high-king of Noldor.

During the Third Age, Laenir lives in Imladris. He is considered one of the housefolk.

 

 

Although Laenir is rather peaceful and friendly, sometimes he is quick to anger (and to calm down too, to be honest). If you are a loyal friend, he considers you a good person.
