| Outward Appearance |
With the arms and bearing of a fighter, Arlis usually portrays a strong disposition, standing and walking like a soldier, and usually with some building supplies or documents in hand. Most often, she sports masculine clothes, worn but of good quality. Always a silver necklace's chain disappears into the neckline, and always there is a silver wedding band on her finger, no matter the attire. Her fine leather belt has an impressively crafted round shield buckle on it, which Dwarves may note to be Khazâd-steel infused with mithril. Arlis is a dwarf from the Blue Mountains, looking no more than a century old, standing no more than 4'5" tall; her profile is that of a Longbeard, but there's a Broadbeam edge to her frame and a Firebeard mein in both hair and personality. To her kin, it's no secret that she appears to be a dame, but most Men/Elves/Hobbits will probably mistake her for a lad. She tries to hold herself as someone stern and confident, yet friendly enough, never hostile until you give her reason to be. When she does speak, her voice is akin to a gentle river -- deep, slow, and cool. With those she's truly close with, her real personality blossoms, though she stays plenty laconic. She's been practicing her sarcasm lately, and has been much better about her social abilities and speech. But she still relapses into awkward... She has not been around Bree-town proper a whole lot, lately, but rather in the Stone Quarter or off the road at the small cluster of Dwarves' cottages she lives within. Locals may notice, after an absence, she's hanging around the bar in town again, more enterprising, and speaking a little more well-educated-ly. But she's still pretty gauche... |

Background
Some Dwarves may know that Arlis is the daughter of the late shieldmaiden Kanís, that she's not from a rich family, and that she was formerly employed with the official Regiment of the Blue Mountains after venturing out from home several years back. She quit that line of work, peacefully resigning a couple years ago, but she can still be seen visiting the mountains often from her Bree-home. Locals of Thorin's Gate know that is due to her grandmother, a survivor of the Sack of Erebor, having been extremely elderly and in very slow decline. She finally passed away earlier this year, and Arlis and her family spent a while mourning within the mountain.
They have returned to work now, however! Overall, Arlis seems to just have been living in Bree for quite some time, becoming an out-of-mountain-Dwarf, doing smithery or construction work with her friends and family there within a builder's group. She had been helping restore Trestlebridge as part of that work, but even then, she started to spend more and more time away, occupied with other tasks at home.
She spends much time in the market and Stone Quarter, getting building supplies, and has spent much money at the Lumberyard as well, getting most of her supplies from a particular Dwarf who works there.
She owns an heirloom belt buckle which she repaired with Maurr in Erebor, reclaimed.
