Outward Appearance

If one were to be tasked in choosing a single word to describe Ysolt's face, they would find themselves at an impasse. Plain would be the first thing to come to mind, but on a closer look it would be clear that there were oddities about her, like her shadowy, dull colored skin, or her dark irises. Pretty isn't quite right either, as she is just a bit too blunt in her features to claim that for herself either. Perhaps exotic is closer, being supported by her skin and thick, black hair. The locks cascaded around her face in an untamed mess, often dirty and pulled into several loose braids that would frame her features while the rest fell freely. Wild. That's the word for her. Untamed, savage, and cold.

Neither small nor large, her form is fit and thin. A slight figure, with perhaps just a little bit of scarring, but nothing that dominated her appearance. The main features you would notice about her body are a few tattoos. One in particular seems to be more interesting that the others, printed on the back of her right shoulder like a brand. Forming a circle were several serpents, small snakes twining in and out of each other in a braid of vipers.

It would be worth noting that there was a lack of weapons on the figure, not a single blade on her, save one. Her method of defense was clear enough, however, not in her skill with arms, but in fear. The way she defended herself, more often than not, was with a gruesome appearance, capped off by her solitary weapon, a long scythe. Of course, by itself, the scythe was an ineffective weapon, but she mostly used it for show. It may not drive off a determined attacker, but it would scare off plenty of people when coupled with her gothic warpaints. Her entire face was covered as often as not in white and black that gave her features the likeness of a skull, often under a hood. Just theatric enough to be good at it, she could often scare off potential threats with her words.

The only other thing to note about her appearance is her jewelry. The most notable of it, is actually alive. Several small snakes could often be found on her person, slithering through her hair, wound up in a pocket, or just gripping onto her arms somewhere. She seemed quite fond of them, often stroking them idly without even thinking about it. There were five of them, usually, and she kept them well, naming each of them. Her first and favorite, is a venomous black viper, is named Omnos, Fear. She is merely six inches long, constantly slithering around the woman's fingers and hands, unless she had been tucked away. Ianotouta is another, a little longer at nearly a foot in length, and his name is Eternity. This one is a mottled, brown serpent, looking like some sort of adder that would often drape over Ysolt's shoulders, unmoving for long periods of time. Mona is a pale, albino creature, with pink eyes and slow actions. Sirona, the python, is a small, thick creature about eight inches long, and as thick as three of Ysolt's fingers, with brown skin. Brixtia is perhaps the most exotic of her pets, this one a long, slender cobra. He often was passive, but when threatened, would rear up with the flattening throat that distinguished him from the other serpents. his name is Hex, and he is named aptly.

Background

Seer

Known in her homeland as a spell caster, hex crafter, and as a seer, Ysolt would seem to be well versed in some form of tribal magic. Her profession, however, mostly relied on her claimed visions. As she put it, she could "Read a chapter of your story to you. Perhaps, sometimes, more than one. Sometimes from earlier, sometimes later, and sometimes from another perspective, but it always pertains to you."

Anyone could come to her for her 'readings', and she would only turn away a very few. Sometimes she asked for payment in coins, materials, or supplies, but she always required one thing. The thing, she claimed, that made her readings so accurate to a person, was that she used their own blood. The price for her service would always include a cup, or more, of blood.

Slave

During Ysolt's life, there were times when the things she told people didn't exactly make them happy. Many times, in fact, her customers would become violent over what she told them. In her homeland, it was not uncommon for her to tell people they would die, and most of the time, she was right. Ysolt is no soldier, warrior, or even master of escape, and though she would often offer reason, or twisted logic, there were times when her wrathful customers would not listen.

One particularly arrogant figure felt that the best way he could show his displeasure was to take Ysolt as a captive after she had shown him his death. A massive bear of a man like him didn't have much trouble with her, taking her easily as a slave. Several years of her life were spent with this man, and every day he would ask about her prophecy, and his death, mocking her with it. Working the entire time as a seer, and other things, she would eventually have her revenge. This is when she found Omnos, barely out of the egg. With great care, she would take the serpent for herself, and set it loose in her master's bed not long after, ending her time with him in a single bite.

Her experience with this gives her an understanding of suffering, but instead of hatred for the practice, she only gained curiosity. Coming from a situation of this sort could, in her own mind even, be considered a good thing, because now she understands those in slavery, poverty, or under abuse.

Cannibal

In Ysolt's mind, there is nothing wrong with treating any human in any way. Morals to her are only acted on when they serve her, which, to those who know her, is clearly quite often. However, she has no qualms about doing certain things that others may find distasteful. As an example, she doesn't find anything wrong with the practice of reusing a human body. In her mind, even if she did care about morals, a person who is dead cannot complain about what happens to their corpse, and it did have such an appealing taste... She made a practice of it, whenever she found herself with the opportunity. Occasionally, she would include these acts in her rituals, and offering a sacrifice of flesh to be devoured would always win her favor.

Terror

After leaving her master, Ysolt began to take pleasure in pain, both her own, and that of others, but more than that, she enjoyed being feared. In her homeland, her tribe had already respected her, but now she ceased in hiding her cannibalistic activities and insisted on painting the skull on her face when she went out, even taking slaves of her own from among the tribe.

This is when they banished her. After showing her loyalty to the tribe by eating their remains and taking their people for herself, she was driven out, sent away into the wilderness of Dunland. Thus began the woman's wandering, and many of the people groups she came across along the way would eventually do the same with her. Never wanting to turn back, into the places she'd left, she would always continue north and west, hooded, masked in paints, and working her mischievous magic wherever she went.
