Agvidr

Agviðr, son of Hrani
| Name | Agvidr |
|---|---|
| Status | Active |
| Occupation | Mercenary, trained in the traditional Lake-men ways of war |
| Age | He has seen more contracts fulfilled than Scatha had scales; but his age does not stop him now |
| Race | Man |
|---|---|
| Residence | Looking for contracts in Bree-town, but born in Strandburg upon the Long Lake; Lake-town in the southern speak |
| Kinship | None |
| Outward Appearance | A cold-beaten mercenary in burnished corslet, wrought on the shores of the Long Lake. His face is creased crookedly by his years, and too pockmarked and scarred; his life has been no easy one. Though rough and weary is this Northman, his reddish blond hair now streaked with white, he bears northern finery and marks of battle-prowess: rings about his arms, knotted hem upon his sark, and small beads braided into his hair. Things of pride in his stay in the South. At his side is ever a short knife, a pouch near-bursting, and when at work, a spear or sword in hand. The shield he bears is one of Dale; it bears the image of a red dragon encircling a bowman and thrush, northern armies underneath. This same image graces the large saddlebags of his horse Gullback, the strong steed he rode south upon. |

Background
Away from his arms, in the open field,
A man should not fare a foot;
For he never knows when the need for a spear
Shall arise on the distant road.
—Proverb of the Lake-men
Lake-town was where he was reared, on songs of the dragon-slayers Bard and Fram and the great hoards they plundered. When asked about the fall of the dragon Smaug and the return of Dale, he will proudly mention his father Hrani the Bald, a mercenary returned home, whose arrows grazed many times the worm's scaly hide, and took a large cup filled with gold and bent by the beast's weight as weregild for Agviðr's uncle Oddr, son of Ubbi. Following in his father's footsteps, Hrani's son has braved many hardships in search of contract and coin, serving many men and dwarves for wealth and fame, having amassed what some call his Smaugling hoard and a reputation for a job well-done, the sum of a life's work.
