I'm sitting by a flowing stream
Awash with grass and summer dreams
That graced my sleep
I cast my line out far and wide
And reaching to the other side
Where willows weep
I'm hoping for a silver prize
For rainbow scales delight my eyes
What gifts the river has inside its store
I'll sit and fish for tea on river shores
I catch a glimpse of golden fin
I sense my chance to reel it in
It's time for tea!
But cunning is the darting fish
To chance the line, evade the dish
It swims off free
I close my eyes and dream again
And imagine fish, I swim with them
Awake, I try to cast my line once more
I sit and fish for tea on river shores
And evening comes, the birds all fly
They sweep across the scarlet sky
The waters dim
My line still cast, in evening light
A chance I crave, a hopeful bite
The fish still swim
And rooted like a tree I stay
Whilst darkened ripples fade away
Into the depths the baited hook explores
I sit and fish for tea on river shores
I'm not a hero of these times
I'm just a hobbit with a line
That knows to fish
And sitting on this grassy bank
Where flowers smile on those who thank
Such nature's gifts
I can't explain just how it feels
To be as one with rod and reel
Just like a scene from books of days of yore
So here I'll sit and fish for evermore
