The Tiny Maiden

A slice of the new moon stands to the West of this land. I walked slowly upwards, my bare feet treading the winding pathway, noiseless and white as the first star after dusk in the deep blue and purple sky. My hair unbound, wearing  only a black  garment and hooded cloak, I was alone, yet I knew I was watched. I know this path so well, I'd been here before.  Night moved silently behind me, my companion , my friend, my brother. Upward and upward still in the darkening twilight in the company of few little stars now. Will I find my way to the ring of stones  as they gleam of enchanted light from the center of this mysterious circle ? From here I will see the  shimmering lake below, and the slice of the moon reflecting on the still dark waters.

Here stood a tiny maiden, of the race we call hobbits, she moved towards me in silent little steps, almost invisible. A little adult female, curvy and attractive, not a girl. Robed in white and gold, her long hair unbound and dancing in the night breeze. She offered me a cup, in silence I drank its content , sweet as flower petals, strong like the soul of an ancient tree, soothing like the most beautiful melody of an Elven harp. A vision...a dream...a prophecy . Silver and Gold, two lights meeting only for a few precious instants into one unique White light. To the warm golden light, to the fresh silver light I swore my oath ...here I am donating my entire life to the search of the essence of that White light. I could feel the softness of the grass under my feet eager to move and dance to a beautiful melody raising from the small harp of the tiny hobbit maiden.  My body felt as light as a feather floating in mid-air as the green eyes of the tiny hobbit shone in the light of the moon. I stood on top of a tall mountain and leaped into the clouds of white like an eagle , free and unbound.

Time passed and more stars  appeared in the ever-darkening sky but time stood also still for me as I began to see pictures in my mind of a distant land across the Great Sea to the West, of a time when by the harmonies of a wonderful music  Golden and Silver were created  to measure the time and give hope. Somewhere in the woods  below an owl called ...OOOH...OOOH...OOOH, the pictures in my mind faded away and out of the darkness the hobbit maiden came forward again , silent  but smiling. Her small arms embraced me and she rested her head on my belly for a few moment with her eyes closed,a and so I gently put my hands around her and return the embrace and felt tears and joy came onto me. After a blissful minute she moved back and lifted her hand holding a small envelope towards me. I looked at her, nodded and smiled before taking it from her.

The slice of the moon  looked down at us standing in the ring of stones, almost smiling  approvingly. The tiny maiden waved me farewell before silently walking away.  I felt sad to be alone  but I had a letter to deliver before dawn.

Let it be so!
