The Lay of Lin Giliath
A courier came swiftly riding
To Elrond's house brought dire tiding
A horde of evil creatures fell
Would set on lands where fairfolk dwell
Lin Giliath a small enclave
Called home by elves, both bright and brave
Under this threat was now in peril
From brutish beasts both vile and feral
The Dark Lord's threat once more unearthing
Nan Wathren and Dol Dinen birthing
A host of goblin, warg and orc!
Elrond, he listened, stroked his torque
Deep thought was seen upon his brow
Seeming to ask, 'What do we now?'
He sent a call across the lands
To summon armies, troops and bands
To counter such a dreadful foe
He called for shining spear and bow.
He called for razor-edgéd sword
To decimate this spiteful horde
To save the pass from being closed
A dire foe must be opposed! To save the ancient scrolls from burning
This threat of darkness needed turning!
A thousand elves answered the call
And gathered in the Fire's Hall
At Elronds bidding would they ride
Both friend and rival, side by side
Men too, did answer Elrond's plea
Wishing the North Downs to be free
A dwarven group that did attend
Were willing an axe or two to lend
Imladris saw the host assembled
A force so strong that nature trembled
Shining spears and waving banners,
Fighters, healers, cooks and planners
Such numbers seldom seen before
Though equal not to days of yore
A host still bright to blind the eye
Or bring a tear, induce a sigh
Now following the Loth i Lonnath
The legion set upon it's warpath
The High Moor plains were quickly passed
Then to the bridge they named The Last
On through the Lonelands, dry and yellow
Each goodly soul helping his fellow
At last they climbed the Weather Hill
And passed the lake Nen Harn until
Lin Giliath was finally reached
Those old walls crumbling, though yet unbreached
The elven host made preparation
And scouts assessed the situation
Neat maps were made and herb infusions
While captains came to fair conclusions
The foe unorganised, though great,
Sly strokes their numbers would deflate
Until the horde became dismayed
And thought of having been betrayed
Would sink into their feeble mind
Perhaps they'd all been left behind?
These skirmishes were so worthwhile
The throng could not restrain a smile
A great attack was mounted then
To clear the valley Nan Wathren
An army made of elves so bright
Of men and dwarves willing to fight
Convened upon the hilltop brow
Preparing through the horde to plough
Most of the legion there remained
While bridge through stealth and blood was gained
T'was then the main host saw a sign
A burning arrow straight of line
Cleft through the air, it's message saying
''The bridge is ours, now start the slaying!''
At which the doughty host did bring
It's mighty arm in one great swing
Felling goblins left and right
Great orcs and wargs all felt the might
Of such a powerful progression
The valley soon was in possession
Of elf and man in war united
Even the dwarves got quite excited
And crows picked at the carrion
Scarce irked by sounded clarion
This was the first great battle scored
Against the multitudinous horde
Yet greater foe must now be thwarted
Dol Dinen's threat to be aborted
The watch was kept up unabated
And weapons honed while word awaited
From scout reports bravely collected
Great plans were made, then soon rejected
At last a strategy devised
The Enemy horde was then surprised
For a multitude so glorious
Came wielding weapons furious
Dol Dinen was swept clean of foes
By way of dealing crushing blows
Even the trolls had no defence
Against a wrath grown so intense
The gleaming army dread and fair
No troll nor goblin life did spare
Uncounted orcs and wargs were felled
And from Dol Dinen were expelled
As ground beneath their feet grew red
The remnants of the horde then fled
The army's fury knew no bounds
Pursued the orcs over the grounds
Where, prior battle, rangers wise
A cunning plan there did devise
They tricks and traps laid in the grass
And so orcs herded to the Pass
Of Nan Amlug and then Angmar
While Earthkin from the West did bar
Escape into the Western plains
And harried the flanks of the horde remains
The fight was carried to a camp
With only here and there a lamp
To light the evil Hillmen's lives
Who fought the host with clubs and knives
Desperately guarding a sinister gate,
The hillmen harshly met their fate
The gate felt wrong, evil and dark
And each who saw it felt it's mark
Content with having crushed the foe
Beyond the gate they did not go
The battle fierce was fought and done
The horde dispersed and on the run
They kept an ever watchful eye
Then headed for a clearer sky
Once in Meluinen, songs were sung
Laments for those who died so young
But great rejoicing too was heard
The enemy plan full well deterredThe pass to Havens Grey secure
Seawards the nowsafe pathways lure
Lin Giliath safe, the scrolls preserved
Feast was prepared richly deserved
Honour and valour prevailed throughout
Combined the enemy plans did flout
Great vows and oaths were staunchly made
And heartfelt thanks for such great aid
Good friends were found while fighting foes
But is this the end? Who truly knows! s234.photobucket.com/albums/ee263/Duissane/Duissane%20screenshots/The%20Gathering%20Storm/
