The Poem - A Poem

Now Hobbits can be fond of words
And tell tales all the time
But what I'd really like to see
Are hobbits writing rhymes!

So listen to this poem here
It teaches things to you
And by the time the poem's done
You'll write your own ones too!

Before you start to think of words
And writing verses out
You firstly have to pick a theme
What will it be about?

And will it be a funny work
Or serious or sad?
Or maybe one with heroes in
Or one to make you glad?

One featuring our Shire home
Should brighten up your mood
But personally my favourites
Are poems praising food!

Now take a quill and paper sheet
And write out words that rhyme
For poems will have rhyming words
Although a good few don't

This little poem that I tell
It has a simple rhyme
There's just one pair of matching words
The fourth and second lines

The poem has a rhythm too
It's like a beating drum
A simple beat will work quite well
da-dum da-dum da-dum

It's time to start your poem now
So write out all those lines
The words should flow quite naturally
It shouldn't take much time!

And once your poem is complete
There's one more thing to do
Is find a group of hobbit folk
To read your poem to

So, everybody here today
Your poems should be heard
It’s good to share with everyone
The wonder of your words!
