| Outward Appearance | Tall, powerful and broad-shouldered, yet unusually fair-haired for a Noldo. Mistalion has made a habit of solemnity and reserved distance, even more so than most of his kin, and has a keen if sometimes nostalgic interest in the history of both Elves and Men. He is often seen wearing his shockingly red battle-garb, which he claims makes him easy to spot by his allies and hard to forget by his enemies. |

Background
Born to Sirvellon, a fair-haired Noldo of Aman, and Thingwen Amrunel of Lindon while they were jorneying from Imladris to Lothlorien in the dawning days of the Third Age, on the banks of the Anduin river some miles south of the Field where the Mannish king of Gondor and Arnor had fallen a few years previous.
Mistalion lead a fairly ordinary life in Lorien for many years until the coming of the Istari athe the beginning of the second millennium. Mistalion's father, though not by choice a martial elf, saw in the coming of the Wise signs of strife to come and began travelling throughout Eriador to give what aid he could in the struggle against the Enemy.
Sirvellon came to his end aiding Arveleg I, eighth king of Arthedain, when they were both slain at Amon Sûl in TA 1409. A few short years later, Thingwen departed into the west to rejoin her husband, leaving their only child behind in Endor.
At first driven by a need to understand what had caused his father to lose his life, Mistalion took to travelling in Eriador and beyond, settling first in Imladris, then for a while in Lindon and eventually even staying for a while in Arthedain. As time passed, he came to see the value of the struggle of the Men of the North against the Enemy for its own sake, and offered the councel and assistance he could to the Mannish kings.
When Arthedain fell in TA 1975, Mistalion was in Lindon and marched north with Cirdan's host, though under the command of Prince Eärnur of Gondor. He fought in the Battle of Fornost and took part in many of the skirmishes that followed before the hosts of Angmar was finally destroyed or driven off.
Aranarth son of Arvedui, last king of Arthedain, took the title Chieftain of the Dunedain shortly after, vowing to rebuild the northern kingdom one day and founding the Rangers to do what they could to protect Eriador. Although Mistalion continued wandering, going as far north as Forochel, south to Edhellond and Gondor and east into the Sea of Rhûn, he always and periodically returned north to maintain contact with the dunedain there and to aid when he could in their struggle.
Mistalion is dedicated to preserving the legacy of the Noldor - in the same way as he regards the Mannish Rangers to be a continuation of the legacy of the kings of Arnor, so too does he regard his own House of Vanimar to be the continuation of the legacy of the High Kings of the Noldor and the House of Fingolfin.
