What makes us who we are...?

Sun rays dancing on a glistening lake. Birds singing in treetops. A gentle breeze flowing through grass as if caressing the ground. "Warmth and peace... " A slender hand resting on the rock surface, soaking up the warmth the sun has stored in it. Dark strands of hair playing in the wind, trying to rest on a paleskinned face, yet as vibrant and lively as it's owner, can not. "Warmth and peace..." Silken clothes dyed a pale burgundy red encompasses a slender body perched upon the rock. Eyes grey gleam in the sunlight, trying to catch sight of the bitterling swimming beneath the lake's surface. "Warmth and peace..."

Thoughts trailing through her mind, questioning the essence of her being.  "I live. I breathe. I fight. I rest. I am Himwen."

Sitting next to the maiden is a friend of her kin. Hair as dark as coal, skin as pale as the starlight and eyes as green as the grass around them. Her smile always comforts Himwen when she is distraught and at the moment, it is shining upon her once more, as if to encourage her to continue her tale.

"Once, when I was fairly young living in the golden wood, I had a friend... she taught me a lot of things about myself that I did not knew was there. Illadriel would become my root in the elven community, for she was fair and beloved by all and thus I was welcomed where I normally would not willingly enter. We once had a fight that was to end our friendship for a long time, though we were not aware of the fact in the beginning. We did not see eachother as I was to leave the Lorinand for some time by the call of my trainer. Illadriel came to me with the request that I hid something on her behalf. My own memory of our disagreement prompted me to reject her wishes and she in a fit of rage gave me my current name. Not long thereafter she perished and the loss of her friendship made me realise that I never want to lose anyone ever again. I took on the name to remind me of the pain the loss of our friendship brought me and how the foolishness of rejecting it left me standing alone."

Grey eyes meets green. Smiles break out, though the seriousness of the conversation makes it slight. Himwen takes a deep breath and continues.

"My fortune changed when I met you, Aelaer and Tingruviel. You all gave me a purpose I did not have before. To aid and to be a part of something bigger is what I strive for next. That and...." Himwen trails off, leaving the rest unsaid whilst grinning to herself. The afternoon light turning the woods into a dream, fades away slowly as if someone placed a blanket over the world. The silence is only broken by the odd rustle of leaves as small animals roam the wilds. Without saying a word, both maidens rise to their feet, leaving the glade untouched by their presence.
