As Kim sits at their usual table, looking around at all the empty seats she gets lost in her thoughts. She thinks of how she is alone, once again. She knows that they will be back back but then, in that moment, she was alone. The silence filled her ears, no one left in sight. Her daughter missing them just as much as she was so she put on a brave face, not wanting to show how lonely she was. After all, she is the one who left her partner. Kim isn’t sure if Quinn will ever forgive her for that, though she is still trying to forgive herself. She knows it was the right thing but it does not make it easy. She thought of all the things her friends had taught her, and how she can’t wait for them to be back.
She is working on keeping her deal with Nate not to drink too much. It’s not easy but she is working on it. Kim will forever be in debt to Nate for how supportive he is. Of her, of Quinn, of everything in her life. He is honest and fair but supportive. She’ll be glad for him to be back so that Quinn will stop her nagging about how much she misses him, though Kim also misses him. She plays with the necklace he bought her all the time, a really special thing. She wishes he were there earlier, when Quinn had an episode and freaked out. Kim has a good bruise now and later that day a man scolded Quinn, leaving her upset. Nate, come home soon.
Greg. Oh Greg. He has always shown Kim that there is a certain fun to life and to embrace that, even if Kim isn’t good at it. He’s been like a little brother to her for years and even after they hadn’t seen each other for ages, they picked up right where they left off. They have always cared about each other and always will. She’s ready for their late night talks again. Ready for those dancing lessons…even if she denies it. Come home Greg, she needs you.
The last person her mind wandered to was Cat. Cat is her rock, her person, her sister. Even if Cat isn’t the best at comforting she will be there for Kim no matter what. Possibly the most consistent thing in Kim’s life and the most dependable. Kim is doing her best to keep her little mouse alive, no matter how odd she finds it. She remembers when they first met. They sat across from each other with a staring match. She always found the nicknames fun, and she likes how they evolve over time. She loves the upgrade from ‘hidden sister’ to ‘honor sister’. It’s a little secret in the group of friends, for the most part, that they aren’t blood related but even if they aren’t related by blood, Cat is her family and nothing will change that. Come home safe, and maybe remember her this time.
They’ll come back soon. She knows that. But sometimes, she wishes they were already back. Her friends need to come home soon, she needs them but she understands that they are needed somewhere else right now. They just need to come home safe. With one final look at the empty table Kim stood to go home. One day closer to something new happens. Her friends come home, or she meets someone new but for now, she is simply, alone.
