A year ago, Ryheric played three songs for his former lover Silver on the cliffs.
The first was Rain Ghost, the piece of music for when he'd first seen her on the stairs of the Prancing Pony. The despairing woman, fatalistic, existing.
The second was The Noose. The state of him that she had discovered and further invoked. He had learned more from this damaged woman than she would ever know.
The third was this song. Silver's fight against her own multiple personalities. Doubled notes, for the two dueling personalities in her head. Strands of Rain Ghost - uplifting and defiant in raised sweetness. The cruelty, overbearing. The kindness, a graceful struggle for presence that lifted and floated like sunlit clouds. The bittersweet melody - his song. Unseen behind her own mirror mazes. Back then, prideless. Offering a blade at her side that she could never accept.
For in blades she saw only enemies... But she had been the first to teach him he wasn't nothing. He had learned, grown and changed, she had stayed, trapped. And he couldn't help her, anymore.
She was a ruined, beautiful, cruel woman. Red, black, burgundy and a tinge of purple. He had loved her deeply, and had his heart broken by her. Would he do it all over again? He didn't know. But there was power when the strings of his lute brought to bear her song.
(( This is an orchestrated soundtrack piece. Every time the guitar appears in the piece, it represents Ryheric's piece on his lute. The original ABC file is heard on lute only, in game when Ryheric performs it.))
Silver.
"Silver washed into me in a season of color
Drawn in, while she tried to hide
To sort the tangle of yes and no.
I kissed her, hoping it would make it clear.
Living shouldn’t be that hard
She made it look easy
While at war on the inside
Overflowing onto me in a sea
Of Red and Black.
Desire and hope mingled with anger
Hers, and mine
And all the others she held within.
That dance in vain despair
Terrible to behold.
Days turned into nights
Some so full of promise
I found myself with a song,
Laughing and drawing her in
Bright when she came with me.
Helpless, when she disappeared instead.
Running inward to fight
a war with herself, that wasn’t mine.
Did it sweep her away?
Or did she lose herself in battle
Waking up miles from a self she didn’t recognize?
Days upon days running.
In fields of blood and bodies.
Real, or imagined,
Ghosts of the past and harbingers of the future.
Awakened to the confines of a warm bed
A dose of sanity and a new sunrise.
Cold comfort, but comfort all the same.
The next battle was our last.
But hers continues."
