13. A Seemingly Impossible Craft

Fearelhil hesitated at the door of the Inn, turning, "Egfor. I need the scales."

Egfor tensed up and became violently angry, "They are mine! You cannot take them from me! Stupid elf!" Fearelhil paused, doing something he has not done for at least a century; he raised his voice, "Egfor Alcarien, give me the scales now, you foolish man! I will take them from you if I must." The energy in the room shifted to incredibly unpleasant and heavy. Egfor shrank back and cowered in fear. The man fumbled nervously and reached in his tunic, pulling out the scales wrapped in fabric, hurriedly handing them to the elf. Copepr relaxed, sighing as he took them, "I apologize for doing that, Egfor. It is better you be rid of them."

Egfor nods meekly, not arguing with him. He knew the elf was right. Fearelhil bowed his head, turning to depart the Inn swiftly.

Fearelhil stood at the forge of the ranger he befriended, Dregron. He needed a secret forge away from prying eyes of Bree, and this man was trusted by Egfor. The elf stared at the scale sitting next to his mithril hammer. Dregron luckily had an anvil he did not particularly care for. A mithril anvil would be far too expensive and rare. He would have to make do. He positioned the scale, picking up his hammer. He lined up the hammer, pausing to think. He repositioned it slightly and bring the hammer down firmly. It cracked just like flint would under the hammer. Copper marveled at this for a moment. He had never broken a dragon scale. It answered a lot of questions for him as well.

He would end up having to knap it like flint or other stone. He did not have the right set up for knapping, however. He grunted unintelligibly to himself. He lofted his hammer once more, getting to work on knapping the dragon scale.

Fearelhil held up several small ballista bolt tips. There were a little rough due to the nature of how they had to be crafted, but they would serve well. He laid the tips out in a cloth, bundling them up to make a delivery. Dregron came over, inspecting the damage done to the mithril and scale beating upon the steel anvil, "I'll see about this steel being melted and used for other things. It's lived it's life. You are on a curious mission, friend."

Fearelhil chuckled, "That is an understatement, dear Dunedain..." He elf pulled up his brown hood over his head, stepping out into the brisk nighttime air to make his delivery.
