Recruit Duty - The Old Ruins

I started well before dawn as I had noted down the long list of ruins that were to be scouted out. I arrived at Browne’s Folly in the dark the stars still shining and the moon gleaming above me.

I think I may have been a little too eager, while the folly was clear of foes and a truly majestic sight I was not sure the rest on my list would be. Meeting Brigands in the moonlight would not be as romantic as it sounded. Instead I waited for first light before moving off towards Blackwold's Roost. I am glad I did because as the name suggests the Roost was not a deserted landmark it has become home to a good number of brigands, and many seem to have large wolves accompanying them.

I slipped through the camp, as the Brigands were still just waking and were not looking for such a visitor. I found that they had quite a range of supplies all sorts of boxes and creates were piled up. They also had pens, I assumed for keeping livestock, and it turned out I was right after spotting a few sheep. Although they were far from well-tended one was lying bleating on the floor, it has been savaged by one of those horrid wolves.

I felt I had to get the poor animals out of there. They were victims as much as the people who live near the ruins. However, I have not had much experience with sheep we never kept any back home. It turns out they are the world’s most stupid animal. I tried calling to them, tried rounding them up, I tried luring them with grass, all I could think of and they still wandered around all over the place with no interest with being saved.

In the end it was clear if I was to save them I would have to carry each one individually. When I tried to pick on up the noise it made was much louder than I thought a sheep could make! I was soon going to have a whole camp of Brigands coming to investigate and I am not strong enough for that sort of fight so I am afraid I had to leave the poor creatures. I intend to go back when I have more of a plan.

I then continued on the patrol to the other ruins and most are sadly over run. However, my mind was not completely focused on the job in had I have to admit. I really do want to do something for those sheep.
