From out the cold, the year began
As snow did cover all the land
We huddled close to friends and kin
To stop the cold from coming in
Then spring arrived to fill the land
With life so new, and treasures grand
So great the paths there were to tread
And many wonders lay ahead
And to the fields some friends did go
With seeds to plant and crops to grow
And others went to walk the bounds
To keep the Shire all safe and sound
The sun rose high, the days grew long
The days were bright and full of song
The tunes of birds did fill the trees
We felt the warmth of Summer's breeze
And Summer brought such blissful days
To light our paths with golden rays
The paths did take us far and wide
We spread across the countryside
Then Harvest Time was close at hand
With fruit and veg across the land
We gathered more than we could tell
We gained a lot of friends as well
But as the days did start to fade
We thought of all the friends we'd made
So as the darkness did draw in
We spent the evenings at the Inn
As Autumn went, the days turned cold
With many stories to be told
To our homes some of us did turn
Though others chose not to return
For friends may come and friends may go
They fade away like evening's glow
Just as the sun sets in the sky
The ones we know may say goodbye
So, raise your glasses, full of cheer
And wipe away those longing tears
And as this year comes to an end
Let's toast our dear and absent friends
