Missing Boxes - Part 1

"God dammit, run!"

Furley sprinted forward, trying to find the next bit of cover on the way up to the ruins, with Daphnee close behind, trailing him. She'd told him to make the call, and he had. Approaching a bush, he dived toward it to try conceal himself.

And found himself hiding in a waist-high bit of shrub. "I told you I'm s**t at subterfuge!"
"Big words again, what does that even mean?!" she scowled at him.
"It means you should have taken the lead like before!".

Panicking, he ran ahead again, and eventually they found another bush by the side of the road, and they concealed themselves.

"What are you doing in that bush?".

Anastasiar was stood right in front of them, in the open.

"Get down! What the hell are you standing in the middle of the road for, you'll get us all killed!"
"Because you're SO well concealed".

It was at that moment that he realised his head was poking out, and the sun was glinting off the helmet Daphne had made him wear. And beside that, the whole of Elthhelm's scout company were staring at them, amused.

"Well" he started, grumpily. "If you're all standing around, I hope you brought the cav-".

Their vanguard of warriors streamed past them, charging into the ruin, followed by the scouts. As he listened in. he could hear the sounds of battle echoing everywhere. At one point, he could have sworn he'd heard the Sergeant's gleeful cries of war, but they were distant from his position despite their volume and temerity.

By the time he and Daphne made it to the ruins, they'd all but found a massacre awaiting them. The Company warriors had torn apart the camp of thieves, and had even been joined by Aranoll the Beast-Tamer. He had his sword ready, but it was merely a formality as Daphne did what she did best, and shot anything that came remotely near them that might have been threatening.

Eventually, they all prepared to leave, after a successful day's work. Catrena had managed to get all of her goods back, and the Company's reputation of not being trifled with was evidently still intact. But there was something off. Somethign about the air of the whole situation didn't seem right.

"Excuse me miss, you dropped this".

And it all seemed to focus around that man. The self-proclaimed hunter, Domdrudis. He handed Daphne a strangely painted rock, and she took it from him. He smiled at her, but Furley didn't like it. Something about the man was... off. Some strange tingle, like a sort of foreboding, niggled at the back of his mind, and he found himself watching the man like a hawk.

Nevertheless, it was time to leave. But as they set, that sense inside Furley grew more and more, and he found himself sidled up to his assistant as the Company began to depart to catch up with the others.

"I've got a bad feeling about this, Daph".
