After leaving Rowan by the gates, Steel and I made our way into town. I didn't have the time to socialise, however, instead getting straight down to business. Now, I can't begin to claim that I enjoy shopping. I hate it, in fact. There are a hundred things I'd rather be doing, but I know that shopping needs to be done. I also knew that I'd been gone from Towerglan for a long while and anything I might have left in the pantry would have spoiled by now. So, I bought everything that I could think of. Of course, it would have been far too much for Steel and I to carry, so I paid extra to have it all delivered by cart in the morning.

Unsure of how much firewood I had left over from last year, and knowing that I was in no condition to make more myself, I also passed by the lumber yard in Combe to make an order of that. Again, it is to be delivered, although not for a few days yet.

It was late when I reached the house. Somehow, it managed to be colder inside than out. The repairs I made on the place appear to have stood up well, which is a good start. However, there was an awful smell that I managed to track to a dead bird behind a dresser. Goodness knows how it managed to get there. The only way to deal with that was to open all the windows and let the place air out. On top of that, it is as dusty as a tomb and the bedding appears to be naught more than oversized doilies. Also full of holes were the majority of the clothes I hadn't taken with me.

It was too late and I was too tired by that point to make a real start on anything. I ended up erecting my tent in the middle of the sitting room and mourning the fact that my man-sized hot water bottle had gone to take care of his own business. A cold night, but I've had worse.

To Do:

  • Brush throughout.
  • Scrub floors.
  • Scrub windows.
  • Change beds.
  • Oil hinges.
  • Wipe furniture.
  • Declare war on dust.
  • Have very long, very hot, bath.

At least I'll be busy, I suppose.
