O Gondolin, awaiting
Beneath night’s endless starry cloak
Thy marble lanes in reverent calm
bejeweled by beads and gems that
Glitter in the silver lantern light
Thy graceful trees in outstretched joy
Greet thee, unfurling perfect tiny leaves
Their gift, their art, to welcome the day
Behold! Night's ink-black sky transformed
before thee, O Hidden city! Thou art veiled
in indigo and ash, amethyst and jade,
echoes of the jewel-craft beloved by thy people
the sky grows flaxen with the dawn
Thy songs to greet the Sun
Thy reverent silence
O Noldor, O Gondolindrim
Thy doom hastened, cruel fate
Thou art known, O Blameless Fallen
Enduring still, again we stand at Summer's gates
With joyful song unsung that dark day
Defiant, your memory honoured
Unto the last days of Arda
