Crossing the Fiery Chasm

After making their way through the Second Hall and fighting some goblin scouts, The Black Steel came across a rickey bridge which was their only way to cross the chasm which at it's bottom had a magma flow. Falling would mean certain death. Sigfread went first, without any trouble and after him went Athlenah who also didn't have any trouble, apart from the bridge wobbling a bit.

Next went Melyrn with her baby Mûmak that she had stolen from her people when she fled her country and her job raising the young Mû​​​​​​​mak​​​​​​​s to adulthood when they'd be used as warbeasts. The weight of the baby oliphant was too much for the bridge however and the whole bridge tilted sharply, causing the small Mû​​​​​​​mak to fall with a desperate cry, from the bridge into the searing hot magma below. Melyrn managed to keep hold of the bridge and pull herself back up, though as soon as she crossed the bridge she fell to her knees and sung a song for the death of her Mû​​​​​​​mak. Everyone else was rather shocked to see the creature fall, but were happier to see that Melyrn did not fall into the fiery magma as well.

Gaeded crossed next, leaving Grim with Arthasdir so that she could call him across, hoping that her dog would avoid the same fate of Erel the Mû​​​​​​​mak. As the eorling crossed, however, a plank broke and her right leg fell through. However the planks Gaeded had grabbed onto stayed strong and she was able to pull herself up, though quite shaken from a near brush with certain death. Athlenah pulled Gaeded to safety as she neared the other side of the bridge, which Gaeded was thankful for. Then, it was time for Grim to cross. Gaeded called him, but the dog was smart and refused to cross the dangerous bridge initially. After calling him a few more time, the large black mastiff tried to make the cross and with careful light steps, Grim made it over. Gaeded pulled him from the bridge as he neared and made sure he was away from the edge, giving him lots of pats and cuddles to reward him for doing something so dangerous.

Then came Arthasdir who crossed without any hiccups, despite the bridge wobbling dangerously a few times. Wafri crossed next and he too crossed without issue. Dalwin as he crossed, however, came close to falling. He stepped over where a plank was missing and the plank next to the gap broke, causing the dwarf's entire torso to fall through, only gripping on to the few planks ahead. After some struggling, Dalwin was able to pull himself up, though he was very shaken and Wafri had to comfort him when he reached the other side.

Finally, Elidir and Freyntar crossed, the elf going first and the dwarf waiting until the elf had crossed to go over. Both had no issue crossing the bridge and so most of the company had crossed the bridge safely, with only the loss of Erel.
