Heartbroken Mother

Ash had been frequently visiting Mrs. Dorabel Baker ever since dear Owena's death. Though she was unable to do so much recently, as the colder weather brought on a larger amount of illness and injury, causing her to be quite busy. She knew Mrs. Baker's daughter-figure, Lissilana, had gone missing recently and was neither heard from nor seen in recent times. She was not surprised...those she had come to the infirmary with had seemed to be involved in something...dangerous. She was sure Lissi would be alright. Or more correctly that she was at the moment. She certainly hoped she would be alright for years to come. Ash knew that Dorabel needed her, or at least one of the children she had loved over her years. But alas, they all seemed intent on disappearing in one way or another. Poor Watcher Timothie nearly went mad with grief over losing his beloved Owena, and went off to live alone in the woods. Lissi...well...she had barely been around even before she was whisked away with...whoever those people were.

But now, Ash made her way to the Baker house, finally paying a visit after weeks away. She knocked on the door, adjusting the basket of various goods on her other arm. She nearly dropped it as a face she had never seen before opened the door. A sour-looking woman. "Whaddya want, lass?" She asked impatiently. "I...uh...came for Mrs. Baker. Is she not home?" The woman snorted. "That lady been dead fer two weeks. Wasted clear 'way." She closed the door in Ash's face. She hardly noticed as she dropped her basket, standing as if she were a statue. She knelt to the ground and wept into her hands. She had failed yet another Baker.
