The Oldest Warrior

Hravanis' story, ultimately, is one of recovery. By the time she has reached the third age, she has found ways to manage every one of the dreadful things she has done, or have been done to her. She learns about forgiveness, for herself and others. She learns how to honour those people she has failed, killed or worse, whilst not crippling herself with the guilt of it.

She learns about love, affection, commitment, empathy. And though she never becomes very good at the latter, she knows to try harder at it.

She learns how to not be always at war, she leads her own path through the knotted emotions of having her innocence ripped away so young. She reconciles with the grief and pride with each other and finds a way to fight whilst not defining herself as a killer alone. Hravanis finds that one of her greatest skills lies in teaching others how to defend themselves and that is what she holds onto.

And, finally, Hravanis reconciles herself with some things that will never change. The Valar will never recieve her forgiveness, for they will never ask for it. And whilst she will remain in Middle Earth and never cross the sea, it is probable she will be alone in that choice. She will diminish, alone and forgotten, and that is fine. In fact, eventually Hravanis reasons that it is right. The only possible ending to her tale.

War will be forgotten, and so will she.
