It came for me. But instead of striking me down, it spoke to me. That horrible sound and feeling. Dark thoughts it planted in my mind. It told me to give him the stone and kill my companions with Calagand’s Silver sword that lay on the ground. I would never do something like that… but it seemed to almost bend my will to his. I resisted for a time… but I was just too weak from everything in the end. I found myself reaching slowly for the sword, but then… that’s when my captain awoke. Thankfully, he was able to grab the elvish weapon before I could and land another blow to the wounded Cargul, for that’s what it was really called according to the elf as I learned later on. The Cargul stepped backwards in pain and spoke once again proclaiming it had already done what it was meant to do. Take the stone. It fled from us after that and the three of us took a rest on the hard ground.
Surrounded by fog, we finally started our slow walk back to the exit of the barrows, for the elf, though greatly wounded, was determined to survive and eventually still complete the quest. When we arrived at the exit we rested again and fixed our injuries as much as we could with what we had. After some talking, Duindos pointed out that he must have been weakened by some poison before we began our journey, for he said it was the only reason why he was able to succumb to such wounds. Only someone who knew about their quest and was against them would have done such a thing. Someone quiet, hidden and secretive. I remembered the man whom Galgardor thought was an eavesdropper. Kaiell was his name. I knew him already from a time before he listened in, if he even did, for I did not see him doing that, though Galgardor said he did. So I mentioned this man and Duindos seemed interested in finding him. After more talk we decided for Calagand to go ahead of us and find a friend of the elf’s who was apparently supposed to be in Bree at the time. In the prancing pony most likely. Duindos said this man, whose name was Wolfe, could help us in pursuing this wraith. So at last we started our slow journey back towards Bree with Cal ahead of us.
