To the dwarrow in charge!
As a token of my good will, and to see if there are was any good trade opportunities, I traveled to the outpost Gundugathol to see if I could help make the place prosper. Only bringing some small amount of pipe-weed in barrels on my goat, as a sample free of charge, the outpost could test and possible lighten the spirits of the troops stationed there.
To my surprise on my arrival, I was treated with little or no respect from the Zabad in charge there, which I will refer as master Angrybeard from now on, who ordered me around like as I was a simple recruit and belonged to his outfit of dwarven warriors. He even called me, Old Omboo Silverbeard, a “lad” several time’s, it seems the respect for the elders are lacking among dwarrow’s in Thorin’s hall, or at least Master Angrybeard need a lesson or two on that subject.
Trying to explain my reason to be there was cut short and I had to attend two patrols, which one of them included a small skirmish with some Dourhand’s and nobody managed to observe that I was without weapons through the whole ordeal. Bringing a weaponless trader in a fight speaks in volume how bad I was treated. On top of that, I was given no time to actually do what I was supposed to do there, to set up a trading post. What an outrage!
As for my “forced upon” comrade in arms, there is much to say, but I will keep it short since ink is not cheap.
The fighting spirit of one called master Khorvind, reminds me about myself in my younger days, young, eager and reckless of the dangers around him. Commendable, but not something you want to protect your flanks during battle. On the other hand there was a female dwarrow who should have stayed behind in the halls, instead of serving as a warrior at the outpost. Hearing her whine about everything, reminds me about the man traders when they part with their silver.
I do support the dwarven cause, but as a veteran of liberating Erebor I have seen my share of the fighting and find my fighting days done and gone, unless in great need. My abilities and strength are within trade these days and a wise leader should make use of that, instead of forcing me into a frontline with raw untrained recruits. Beside my trade, I can and will of course offer what I have of council to help the Zabad of Gundugathol, but I will not subject myself to any military matter, unless it is my own decision.
