Orders:
- a new flute (due in one week)
- a pig
toythingsculpture (?) dimensions: three feet tall and a little fatter than the usual pig, plus a big smile! (no set date, but as soon as possible)
Attached is a parchment, a little muddy at the edges, with numerous charcoal sketches of pigs. They are quite well-drawn.
Bree-town has been very kind so far. Meary Bloom, a butcher's daughter, asked me for a pig for her father's shop window. She says a smile will do better to attract children. I've never done a project as big as this before, and definitely not by myself- I've helped with rocking horses back home, but father always used to handle the big things. I always did the little projects, carving the details and such. But I'll figure it out, I'm sure. Besides, she promised me free meat, which will be handy if I eventually run out of money.
I visited the pigpens to figure out exactly what I'm doing, then I went to the Combe Lumber Camp for wood. A woman called Key showed me the way. She's a houndkeeper. I promised her a new flute. I can do that too, I'm sure. In a week's time.
Meary suggested I register my trade at the Town Hall to start paying taxes. So will I start to make a name for myself, Syelle the Toymaker? If word gets to home they will surely realize where I've gone, even if Haimo promised not to tell. There are other merchants.
But if it took me so long to come here, then the word going there and time taken to send someone to fetch me will be even longer. And if that happens, I can easily pack up and leave. Where to?
The writing here is a little smudged by droplets of ink and the author's attempt of rubbing them off.
- The Shire.
- Ered Luin, dwarves
- South - Gondor?
Not to worry, it's a long time ahead now.
I used up much of my money for my Prancing Pony rent, so perhaps I should start making more. A poster, maybe?
No, I'll finish the pig and flute first. That way people will be able to know what I'm offering. Word can get around. Would you believe they don't have toymakers?
Meanwhile: explore Bree. This town is beautiful, and so are the people, once they forget the fact that I am from beyond the hedge.
