Bored. That’s what he was. Bored. Mind numbing and endless boredom.
Confined to his bed in the most uncomfortable position, Taraborn lay recovering from his wounds. Narys had stitched up his back, tended to him and so on, keeping him fed and warm. But he was more or less confined to his bed unless he needed the toilet. Avoiding putting too much pressure on his back, and trying to not lay on his still tender rib cage, Taraborn was left laying awkwardly on his side the entire time.
Narys and he had had their fun together, which would have been a funny sight for anyone walking in on them. Two battered and beat down people going at it while trying not to hurt themselves or each other. Luckily for them though, no one had walked in at that moment. They had spent a few days just lying in each other’s company, but eventually Narys had to go and do her own things, sort herself out after that disastrous day.
Alone with his thoughts, Taraborn slowly descended into boredom and irritability. Going over and over all the things that had gone wrong that day, the horrific act Narys’ captor had been about to do to her, would have done to her had Taraborn not shown up. All the luck that had led him to find her, all the ways he may not have found her in time or just passed out before he had. Over and over and over again he goes, ever coming up with more ways things could have turned out worse. What if the brigands had killed him? What if they had broken his legs so he couldn’t get anywhere? What if Narys had woken sooner and their questioning began sooner?
Brief interludes of Narys visiting, or when Taala and Eroforth came to see him cheered him up somewhat, but not long after they were gone he was back alone with his thought.
Safe. He thinks to himself, she needs to be kept safe. I need to make sure no one hurts her again. We were lucky last time, next time we might not be. The ideas he went on to come up with to solve these problems might be deemed crazy to a normal person, but to a wounded, bedridden man alone with his thoughts, they seemed perfectly normal.
