When Dwarf fought Dwarf

Few stories tell the tale of how Dwarves once fought Dwarves long ago. I have the blood of the Firebeard clan in me and I know well the fierceness that comes from it. No warriors were ever so relentless than those of our clan, yet, it is this same fierceness that cost a great many things. Records state that during the first age, the Firebeards and Broadbeams warred from time to time and it was not uncommon to see battles within clans either. Our people were young, full of fighting zeal and easily offended. They fought over mining territory, heirlooms, perhaps just over words spoken. Marazal, our earliest family ancestor, speaks of these battles in his fragments but spent no word too much to describe them.

One account states: "[...] when chainmail ringeth and breaketh and cries fill the sky, 'twas dwarf blood spilt, 'twere dwarves who vied". Marazal clearly speaks of the competition between the clans in early times, but there are no other references made to this woeful thought. King Naugladur was known to be prone to solving issues by the axe - both elf and dwarf remember well what his deeds had wrought. Yet I revere this king of old and I feel not ashamed of my kin's past. Fierce they were, aye, but not careless nor ignorant. I am proud to read of their exploits, their resourcefulness and to see how far we have come! Baruk khazâd!
