The Blood, The Wine, The Roses ~ Chapter Two

"It is the pursuit of happiness that instills worth and value to the state of happiness itself; for once attained, it is always fleeting."

It would be a nice change of pace, should life prove my words wrong. Many a times have I attained happiness, though not once for long. Stagnant waters, after all, eventually become putrid, and restlessness always ends up overshadowing peace.

Thus, another dance begins. It is one whose steps I have learned by heart, though I cannot with certainty make the same claim about the other participants. It begins slowly; as all dances do. The first fiddle breaks the silence, the first cautious, gauging steps are taken.

Like the final droplet of wine in a glass filled to the brim, the ripples ensure that more and more will be caught by the rising tune, before the piece is done. Yet, they also ensure that some of it will spill.

'Tis a game I still delight taking part in. I can only hope my partners draw from it the same joy as I. After all, if one is to die, one should at least die happy. Who shall stumble, I wonder...
