Captain's Quick Report: March OAKS with Struck by Moonlight

Once a month there arises an opportunity to travel from far and wide -- or from near and by local means if one is a Hobbit of the Shire -- to the village-bounds of Oldfurlong, nestled south of Michel Delving; where the community here and it’s residents are known for playing host to the one and only OAKS event, also called the Oldfurlong Amazing Koncert Series for those new to the phrase!

And with the help of a Hobbit by the name of Miss Acorne and her friends, each month over the years has welcomed the talents of musicians and bands of splendid quality to perform, with travelers and visitors invited from across Middle-earth to enjoy and take part in the festival celebration that each group brings with their music.  And so today, with the Struck by Moonlight musicians, did many merry tunes play; a fine dance of numerous sorts happen; and an audience that cheered and quite likely seemed to enjoy an outstanding time here at today’s OAKS with the Struck by Moonlight!

Having previously played at what is known as the weekly Bird and Baby Yard Party, regularly organized by Hobbits such as Miss Bilbeto and Miss Toadflax, it was to my joy that another chance to listen to the songs and melodies from Struck by Moonlight did grace my schedule, and so on to Oldfurlong did I go!  A long travel from the Bree-land, and perhaps a rare one at that compared to many of my fellow Man, but if you have heard the songs and instruments, the singing and lyrics those three Hobbits of the Struck by Moonlight band did play just hours ago, you would surely – as I have concluded – deemed it a most worthy journey to have made!  It was such a welcome period of fine ‘classical’ and ‘folksy’ tunes ( to use perhaps a few uncommon words ), along with a number of others that simply gave bulwark to the spectacular tradition of friendly atmosphere the OAKS events are.

Some audience members arrived a little later, others left early to rest for the night; many stayed until the final song.  As always it was a time to see most familiar faces from many walks of life, and many different parts of Middle-earth; the musical community appears to very well know each other and support one another’s work.  With joyful spirit this night in Oldfurlong was another outstanding one to remember in this Bree Captain’s books, thanks to Struck by Moonlight, and also because of the many warm hearts that dwelled within the audience whom attended, without fail.

But alas, there is much more on the horizon – and both my schedule and travels will soon take me unto this place and that - from one business of urgency to another.  But still do I hope to gain what free time can be spared; there is a coming concert by the Polnulnie in Bree, and the White Flames will also be hosting one next month over in Gúndalaf; there are rumours of badger-like creatures to do with a haunted Bridge Inn; and even more distant gossip that Hobbits will be choosing a Shire May Queen again this year.  There was just recently a delivery caravan of chickens that passed through Bree-town on the way to the Lone-lands, and there is much that still boggles my mind to sort out in paperwork for many various affairs on behalf of the Bree Captain’s Guild; a great number of things to tackle and take care of on the immediate horizon!

With luck, this wonderful performance by the Struck by Moonlight band -- henceforth in that kindly Oldfurlong neighbourhood -- has given me much needed renewal of strength and invigorating spirit to commit to tasks ahead, and work through what needs to be done!  Then, it will be back to the fine traveling throughout Middle-earth, to have the most fortunate circumstance of attending fine events and public celebrations by the Free Peoples where my schedule allows, put forth by the many different cultures and communities of our known land.

Signed,

Captain Naismithea Willarc

Watcher of Roads
Representative of the Bree Captain's Guild
Officer of the Sworn Wanderers

(( Disclaimer: Hello folks, I'd like to caution you that taking a look at the embedded slideshows coming up below will likely not go too well if your in a hurry, and hoping to just get a 'general gander' at what the event was like.  The 'Overview Collection' above is more suited for that!

Viewing the albums embedded below is more geared for those folks looking to get a /slightly/ more play-by-play spirit of how things unfolded.  In fact, I only recommend having a browse through if for some reason, you have an urge to well... just look at a lot and lot of screenshots -- many of the shot angles/perspectives being repeated in other screenshots but at different times during the event, etc!  Thanks for reading.

Extra Note: Remember as well that these screenshots don't capture every word and line spoken by those singing songs or reading out poems and stories!  Don't expect to catch everything that was said, but you should get a general gist/idea of the kind of things that were said! ))
