It appears I do not have to cook much today. There are still much food after the feast of unveiling Anglachelm's portrait, and I have to get yet rid of some of it, somehow.
I suppose it is a good sign. Even if Telpenaro and Elvealin are good in making food, last night I saw the elves flocking often during the night in front of the portrait and concentrating on it's various details, rather than food. Such reaction was more than I had hoped for, especially after all the work and expensive materials. It was not just anyone I tried to display with my brush strokes, after all, and I wanted as little mistakes as possible.
There were faces of the House which I hadn't seen before. Mainly Hammers, and Eleanias who showed her skills with the harp. I have to admit that I've been so preoccupied with the painting, that I have not left my home much as of late. Perhaps it is time to visit the Hall of Fire and the falls more often, as well as my friends in the House. Yet Elvealin had told me of any news regarding the House, so I had not been left in the dark.
But yesterday many of my friends were present – including Parnard and Lady Danel. Parnard seemed to have found himself lady to admire and to keep him company from Brasseniel, and I am happy for him.
One of the new faces, Raolor, said outside that there were too many courtesies. In a way I do understand him - those are mainly but formalities, declaring the goodwill and respect that it found inside us, and so stating the obvious between friends. It does not hurt practising them, but I suspect a strong built Hammer warrior such as himself would go for more direct approach on things.
At least he certainly seemed to appreciate the art that was unveiled later, as well as any elf who shows talent with creation. Perhaps what he said was just an expression of the impatience of excitement that I saw on the faces of many. He told me that he is a stonemason working in Imlad Gelair. Perhaps I'll visit him later there.
When we got inside, I asked Anglachelm whether he wants me to unveil the painting, or whether he wants to do it. He did not say anything at first, but after the speech he walked to the painting with resolution and did it himself.
I was told that after such a work more commissions would start to come in, and it was true – my latest commissioners are now Norliriel and Eliriael, who wished to be in the same picture. I am yet to hear their more specific wishes on the image. But they wished to know how to pay me or help me, and so I told that if they wished to help, they could find me the pigments they wish me to use.
As for payments, Anglachelm thought to make a sculpture in return as a payment – and about Elvealin. I asked for no payment from him, but it is a pleasant idea.
But what of Manadhlaer? After Themodir's funeral, I had visited his grave and paid my respects. I had a thought of perhaps painting them in some way. But I thought it was too early to ask yet back then, since tears were yet flowing and sorrow too close to heart. I'll do one painting at a time, and I won't bring the idea up in speech to anyone until the new commission is done.
I see my fishing trophies also woke interest, especially in Himwen.
I hear a knock on my door. I'll go to open them – these could be the elves that Anglachelm told he would send to get the painting delivered from here to the kin hall. May it bring joy there – time to move on to the next things.
