Report: Attack on Members of the Bree Defense

This evening 3 to 4 men in hooded cloaks and bearing crossbows fired from the roof of the armory across the town hall at Billium Cutting, Thomas Bristlebrush and Bill Cornman. All the men belong were struck with bolts, Bristlebrush and Cornman died at the scene and Cutting is being treated by a healer at the jail. His injuries are several and one of them very severe, a puncture to the ribs by a bolt. The healer stated he has a good chance to live if he makes it past the first 2 days.

The suspects are unknown at the time. Mr. Cutting said he saw one run towards Combe and the others vanished. All wore leather and wool clothing and hooded cloaks. The bolts were examined by our weaponsmith and he declared they were local made.

The two men killed are laid out at the jail and their next of kin is being notified. All the victims belonged to the Bree Defense Militia, a volunteer group founded and lead by Mr. Bill Cutting. He has been known as a man with enemies, not only the southerners he opposes but other foreigners and local sympathizers. I have sent men to Combe and around Bree to look for any one who might have seen the act or the crossbowmen before or after.
