The Ox-Clan

The Ox-Clan, the most common clan in Dunland and one of the most important. With large settlements and large numbers of men and women. With villages in the best places, the Ox-Clan is a wanted clan and a valuable one.

The Settlements

The main and most known settlement to the Ox-Clan is Galtrev or the Slope-Town. Found in the middle of the Loom-Wood (Pren-Gwydh), situated upon a hill with rich soil for farming on the slopes below. Lumber Yards situated in the Loom-Wood supply the town with most if its buildings, weapons and more.

Another important settlement is Barnavon, or the River-View, as it is situated right next to a river with fish and potentially even gold. Close to Barnavon is Carreglyn, the Stone-Valley. Here limestone is mined from the ground using basic mines and hard work from the Ox-Clan miners and the Boar-Clan prisoners. Stone is used in building and metals and ores are sent to Barnavon before either being used or being sent off to another clan.

Avardin is another more known village. Found in Starkmoor, Avardin is the home for the popular Culling Pit where many of the Ox and allied clans go to be entertained. All sorts of animals are put into the pit to fight brave dunlendings or cowardly prisoners. A rich land used for farming, supplying the other settlements with stocks of winter.

Allies and enemies

There is one main enemy to the Ox-Clan, one similar to every other clan in Dunland. The Rohirrim. Though there are also enemies within Dunland, one of them being the Boar-Clan. After they refused to help the Old-Man (Saruman) and his clan, orders were given to the Dragon, Falcon and Ox clan to raid and kill them. Some still survive, hiding in groups though most of the Boars have perished. The Ox-clan doing a lot of the damage and taking them to Barnavon to work.

The allies to the Ox-Clan are powerful ones. The White-Hand, who used Galtrev's positioning to make machines of war though an uprising made them flee Galtrev. The Dragon-Clan, a clan belonging to Saruman. The Falcon-Clan, the Dragon-Clans biggest allies.

The Algraig

The Algraig are outcasts from the Ox-Clan. All of those who were not happy with the White-Hand's offers were banished from Dunland, and sent to Enedwaith where they set up Lhanuch, the Ox-Village. Attempts to get them to rejoin have always failed and now they have settled there for good it seems.

The warriors

The warriors and all of the Ox-Clan can usually be distinguished by the blue war paint used as well as blue-painted furs. The warriors, wearing blue war paint as if there were horns from the temple down to the jaw. The Ox-Clan warriors are the best when stout and strong, as most are. When raiding and fighting, their main tactic is to use “the strength of the ox” and push against their enemies as hard as they can. This pushes their enemies back, making them easier to kill as they are more compacted together, not giving them the swing of the arm they need.

Festivals/Sacrifices

As all the other clans, there is the annual festival to remember the history of the dunlendings, for the Ox-Clan it is known as The Festival of the Charging Ox. Here they recall the history of their old lands, the rohirrim and also about the Algraig and other clans.

Sacrifices are often made in times of need and in war, infront of a large ox shrine is where they meet their death. In times of winter, they sacrifice for food to come their way. In times of war, they sacrifice to be strong against the Flax-hairs.
