A Battered Notebook: 13 Mede Monday

13 Mede Monday

Tosie finally broke up with me. Sent me a letter saying she just didn't care anymore, I wasn't the one for her. Funny thing, I was expecting it and so it was not much of a shock. I didn't have the time for her that she wanted, I'm too much of a prick for her to deal with since she insists on being friends with everyone. Likely she's found some tavern fly to cuddle with, someone that doesn't do anything but pay attention to her and lives to make her happy. That's what she needs and I'm not that, I knew it going into things with her. I told her I wasn't a good man, I can't say I didn't warn her. If I was a good man, I'd have told her no and left her alone but I wanted her.  I wanted her lips and her body, her big dark eyes looking up at just me but that was fleeting and not enough. I knew I wasn't ready for a relationship, this job is my life. Being a Watcher doesn't end when I take off my badge and hang up my sword. It's something I am, not just what I do.

So, I went to the Pony, because where else would I go? I looked towards the barrel out of habit, she wasn't there. She claims to be leaving Bree. I took her letter and read it once more, ordered a shot of whiskey and took out my old pipe, stuffed with fine Old Toby. I drank the whiskey and lit her letter on fire and had a good smoke while it burned to ash in the empty glass. A lot like the rose she gave me, hanging limp and wilted in the glass on my desk, our time together is over.

The night was eventful, enough to take my mind off of things. One of the Bloody Dawn members said he had news about Piperel, starting off with that she was back and safe. I hadn't even known she was gone. Ever since the night I told her that Gorlen had been with the street urchin, she's not spoken to me. I shouldn't have lied but that bastard has his claws deep in her. We were interrupted by the murder of a man outside the Pony. Of course. It never ends, at least I know she's safe but from what or who will have to wait. Found a local man dead, his pockets turned out but for a letter by a dwarf and a missing ring. I won't write much more, as it's an ongoing investigation.

I'm at the end of writing my reports, I can see the sky starting to lighten on the horizon and I've not slept. This dead fellow needs to be examined by the Doc when ever he wishes to grace us with his presence. Hopefully before the stink starts.
