Letter to my Daughter

(An unsent letter, written in charcoal pencil on parchment)

To Violet,

Hello, my sweet little girl. It's your mother. Much time has passed since I last wrote to you, as I was still carrying you, excited to meet you for the very first time. Now, you are here in the world, and I can't be more excited to see you happy and healthy...

I am so glad you've met everyone, now. Your grandfathers were present for your birth, excited beyond all means, as was your uncle Rick and aunt Zuilyun... and now you have met not only my very good friend, Karlie, but several others: Blince, Bryse, Cedwyn, and Amoryl, just to name a few.

As I'm sure you've noticed, you've got a lot of aunts and uncles. Cedwyn, Zuilyun, Rose, Lillian, Hirena, and Khawlah--your aunts. Rick, Bryse, Saqr, Caleb, and Dryn--only to name a -few- of your uncles. Oh, you've noticed I've mentioned one, but not as an aunt or an uncle.

Blince is my mentor, and I have named him your godfather...

Then... let's see, you have also met Mercer and Andelith, two very good men that I am getting to know as well...

... Sadly, you will also notice I have not mentioned your father... Not but a week before you came into the world, with such a powerful battle cry it seems, he... he left, to return to Dale... I will explain more when you are older, as what led to it is... not good, and will be difficult to explain and understand...

Later on in your life, when I do tell you, I will understand if you go to look for your father... but please... if and when you do... please promise me you will not get hurt in any way... All I want is for you to be happy, and nothing -but- your happiness matters to me, more than anything... There are other things that do matter to me, but your happiness is the utmost important one out of all of them.

I love you, Violet. You came into the world with a battle cry, and I am so... so proud to be your mother. I am so very proud that you are my daughter. My excitement wasn't wasted, in fact I am only more excited to see you grow up with the smiling face I've come to see and love more with every passing day.

Sincerely,

Your mother, Erimyl
