Captain's Quick Report: Grand Hobbit Summer Picnic
Poetry and Pie Rollings, Fireworks and Lobelia, Music and Bouncings! That is just a taste of what today's Grand Hobbit Summer Picnic entailed, from what I could tell!
Hosted atop the Hill just north of Hobbiton, and the famed Party Tree those dear hobbits have named, there was much celebrations that made for an extraordinary picnic if this Bree Captain ever did see one! Certainly tops any of the more modest (and dully simple come to think of it) outings any of my folk in Bree-land have ever arranged, well thus far that I know of at least, hohoho!
With an opening few songs by the Brandy Badgers, then some lovely poetry from Miss Pycella to prepare the gathered crowd for the coming Lobelia's Hill Pie Rolling Run, the task turned at hand to the picnic table; and the stocking up on full bellies and food to err, aid the hobbits down the Hill during the race, so it was said. Lining up and raring to go, those dear halfings took off -- and what a race it turned out to be! Don't think I've ever seen anything like that at any Bree-land tournaments or races... it was perhaps likened to setting loose... well, hobbits! To do as they please, fireworks, walking paces, music, table-dancing, and chatting without a care in the world! Hohoho! A particular Miss Shelia was down by the Party Tree for the longest time, plying many a lovely tune on a harp, but soon returned back top to the Hill where the race had originally begun -- for there was much more music, dancing, and food to be had!
The rest of the picnic celebrations carried through with outstanding cheer and music that these folk know how to so well celebrate, there was even that famed bouncing song played, and by good gracious; it was Hobbits flying in the air left and right! What a sight!
There is much more I could write for this Quick Report, but alas as always time is short today, after such an eventful time -- and I must retire to rest. But to conclude this report, I'll add that the ending to picnic celebrations involved taking a short walk down to the Miss Hobbit by the name of 'Lobelia', a hobbit with quite the reputation amongst her halfing-kin it appears... and the Songburrow Strollers, having played several songs earlier, continued with one last song in front of Lobelia's door -- with the crowd and gathered hobbits setting off fireworks of all colors and shapes at the final end, I would warrant what took place there at Miss Lobelia's house was seen for miles past the Party Tree and well into Hobbiton and beyond! What a bright (and loud!) show it was to end such an outstanding picnic!
Pictures do tell a better story than words do sometimes... so with luck, despite the constant rain throughout most of the picnic, most rough drawings and sketches I was able to make have been collected together into an early album I'll submit with this report. Later, once the others have dried nicely, I shall submit another album or two containing a more full gathering of sketches and paintings from my perspective, to be appended to this report at the convenience of the Grey Repository scribes!
It was a slight shame though, with all this music, food and drink (one of the drinks had me dizzy and blurred beyond belief!), there was no sign of Master Silon or even Master Everbrock today. I suspect perhaps many hobbits might have had to do with something called a 'Gaffer's Day' in the Shire... which might explain the absence of many more halflings whom would have otherwise attended!
Still, what a rainy but on the contrary ever so cheery event today -- you would not have guessed the weather put one boot of a damper on any of the spirits of those picnic-goers, hoho!

This collection of sketches and drawings are an early submission to the Archives that cover most main eventful parts of this year's Grand Hobbit Summer Picnic, the possibility exists another separate album or two may be added shortly involving more detailed and specific drawings of the entire event.
