A Brief Note to Lady Elisbeth, From One Who Mourns

The note is scribbled in haste, but the writer has clearly taken some pains to be neat.

Híril Elisbeth,

I felt it proper to send a note of thanks for your presence and the presence of Khalis and Lilleduil at the funeral of my beloved husband.

Many are wounded to their core by this, as if the weapon that struck down Themodir wounded us all alike. I beg you, if you have occasion to speak with Tûr Anglachelm in the weeks to come, be gentle with him. The two were boyhood friends, and Themodir was one of Tûr's last living reminders of the great Hidden City, although the heroism of hír Glorfindel inspires us all as well. If he is intemperate in his speech in any way, I pray you may find it in your heart to forgive any lapses. It is difficult to speak an entire sentence, indeed, to make words come out in an orderly fashion at such a time. I have never seen Tûr so affected by any event, joyous or solemn. The two together carried the loss of Gondolin for longer than most truly comprehend. Now Tûr carries more of the burden on his own shoulders, though I doubt you will be shown this.

Likewise, though he did not speak directly to you (or almost any one) last eve, I shall be bold enough to append his thanks to my own. Many of our Order of the Hammer -- I know not, regarding any members of the Warband -- yet remain in the Hithaeglir, hoping perhaps to take a bloody revenge. I will be frank: I had thought to stop eating, and fade to a shadow, so that my body might lie in a cairn beside his and that my spirit... well, you know. Then I thought I might simply make a last journey to Mithlond and sail home to Valinor. But I have not been released from my duties to the Order of the Harp, and as long as Tûr will abide my presence, I will remain in his service. Whether this will comfort him is known only to him, but duty and loyalty command it.

I remain, Lady, the simple healer known as
