Captain's Quick Report: Evendim Chicken Run
News arrived quickly from Rangers close to Oatbarton, mere hours ago, of a large party approaching from the Shire, having just passed through the Greenfields, and with haste did word spread amongst the good folk around camps here in Evendim; that any whom could spare help make their way with all due speed!
Further missives arrived confirming this was the important delivery of poultry these Rangers of Evendim had ordered recently -- and adamant were they in not having this caravan of clucks and herders be set upon by rogue parties or hostile creatures. This supply of live poultry must reach The Eavespires with all urgency, one of the other Rangers here in Tinnudir even declared!
And so this old Bree Captain set forth to lend what aid I could, having some recent experience several weeks ago escorting a similar delivery to the famed Valley of Rivendell, back when I was attending to business closer to the Bree-land.
And by the fates of wet feathers and clucking, did the journey demand much of us! With over at least eight, or was it twelve and upwards, of chickens flapping their wings and stampeding with their pattering feet, and at least a close equal number in escorting herders, almost entirely of Hobbits, save myself -- the group made it's diligent way through the reaches of Barandalf and it's pathway along the beaches, to make a resting stop at High King's Crossing where many of the escortee chickens made quite a feathered spectacle hopping about onto tents, beddings, crates, even a few dared to warm themselves by a campfire with roasted venison already cooking evenly! Most brave and courageous clucks this lot was, just like the delivery to Rivendell. Master Sandson in the Shire surely knows how to raise good and fine-spirited poultry.
Those chicken-herders of hobbit nature today were also of outstanding quality -- If there was any group to successfully navigate through these beautiful, but dangerous lands around the Lake Evendim, this was the company to do so; on point and well aware of their surroundings, they moved swiftly through in clearing a path for their entourage of feathered-friends, perhaps even more organized and capable in some regards than many mercenary companies scattered throughout Bree-land. When arriving at Tinnudir, there was but a moment's break, if any, and then all were into the water; this is perhaps one of the most interesting escort missions involving swimming large bodies of water I have yet ever partaken in, throughout my career as a Bree Captain!
With gusto and energy belying those innocent-looking birds of a feather, they began swimming -- swimming what have you! Across that great expanse that was Lake Evendim, and their dear Hobbit-herders didn't hesitate for a moment dive right in to accompany their important charges either!
A particular Miss Mollywobbles appeared to have some troubles early on, though from my perspective her fine leaping and simultaneous swimming strokes the entire way surely dissuaded me from thinking it was any trouble with the swimming itself! Miss Tibba and Miss Nimelia were close enough behind to help guide the way, and we continued onwards across what must have felt like an ocean to traverse! We reached land after many strokes of the arm and paddling of feet had been had, and were glad to hear the rest of the swimming caravan, with the main herd of chickens to deliver, had already arrived safely ahead of time as we made entrance into The Eavespires.
It was a most interesting day, but the journey felt quite short within my mind, somehow, if one could believe this Bree Captain -- perhaps my regular exercise and routines in travelling about as a representative of the Bree Captain's Guild have kept me in good shape as well. At least, enough not to be too exhausted after such a long swim!
Departing to resume my previous business here in Evendim, before having deviated to lend aid to this delivery mission of poultry, I bid my warm farewells to those outstanding Hobbits, and set off northeast -- I don't plan on taking another step into water again for a long, long while, by my oath as a Bree Captain!
However, do be advised, Master Reader, if you should ever need to purchase an order of feathery poultry for whatever reason, Master Sandson is, as ever, an outstanding supplier to consider for your clucking needs -- and if you should need a stout party to escort your delivery safely to their destination, surely look no further than to the many Hobbits of the Shire. You shan't be disappointed I'd say, hoho!

A collection of very rough sketches, paintings and drawings have been submitted with this early report.
(( Don't expect gorgeous eye-candy in this batch, have an old PC here, so I usually turn down graphic settings to the lowest when RP events involving fighting actual landscape mobs/instances are involved. For this particular event, be sure to visit the Note #1 link above for a much better -and growing- stash of wonderful quality shots other hobbit-characters/folks from the run took, I promise, it's worth looking at those ones! ))
