Captain's Quick Report: Search for the singing spring badgers
What a splendid day, but also yet to come!
I currently am writing and riding, yes perhaps two things not best mixed together, no matter how experienced of a Bree Captain I am, but yet I must for today -- there is simply no way around it!
To be short, the search for spring badgers in Bindbole Wood is over, and I'm now journeying swiftly back to Bree, and Grenrill Village for the Fashion Event being held there, and I may yet still make it, hoho!
But a Quick Report this shall be, though I presume it may be more on the shorter and hastily written end (excuse the handwriting at some parts, I may be a masterful rider, but bumps and hills still get me!) that I have done for awhile. At the next Quick Post or Mailbox, I shall drop this report in as I swiftly speed by, along with the pre-wrapped collection of sketches and drawings from this outdoor excursion into the Bindbole Woods.
What would one describe it as though? A field trip by the hobbits from Overhill? A scholarly search for famed badgered creatures? A musical singing of myths and tales? (Most proven false in the end, so it went!) Or perhaps all of such aforementioned? Yes... it was quite heartily all of such, and perhaps some more, hoho!
While a detailed report would, and will follow later describing more of the little moments throughout the last few hours, suffice to say I shall begin with saying that after some wandering from Overhill with Master Hooh (we had both been missed the group departure into the woods), the location the field trip of halfling-folk had hiked to was quite into the Bindbole Woods, by a cave further back into the hills. The search itself could be described as a success, for upon arriving at the cave, Miss Tibba and Miss Lina proceeded to coax the 'Badgers' out, and the entire group was able to enjoy the next few hours feeding the creatures berries and foods of all sorts. Miss Dassa was also there, whom I had the first pleasure of conversing with in-depth several days before, and will admit am better versed than before in the usage of titles such as 'Missus' and 'Miss', or 'Master' and 'Mister'. There was no stern reminder from Miss Acorne either about the fact she was not yet married, only a cheerful wave! Master Silon was apparently away at band practice with the Order of the White Flame, and also pulled away on urgent business elsewhere for the rest of today, not a chance of seeing him back in Bindbole Wood or in Grenrill Village later!
And goodness! The badgers.. the badgers themselves! Well... they did not sing mind you, though several in the audience were clearly peering closely, and perking their ears with attentive focus to see if any would utter such a sound, but for the most part the voices we heard were of Miss Lina and Miss Tibba educating (or more like hobbitly-scholarly-debate, with a few choice words here and there about the other's surname upbringing I shan't repeat) the group through musical song and singing about several, and varied, rumours and truths on spring badgers they had come to know (and believe as truth!). Near the end, after bellies filled with tasty berries and foods from the onlooking hobbits combined with a sweet ending lullaby, the badgers themselves seemed exhausted but satisfied and sleepy. With yawns did they return back to their cave, and the group made their way down and back towards Overhill, conversing excitedly about the sights they had seen, and the stories sung. Though these badgers did not utter a word from my observations; strum, blow, bang and play instruments did they still! And so there ended that part of my day, and I urgently begun the mad dash that I am on now, through the Shire and Bree-land to try and reach Grenrill Village for the Fashion celebrations in time, as part of the wider Grenrill Village Anniversary Festival month-long festivities.
