Boffins
The Boffin family traces its ancestry back to the Stoors of the Eastfarthing – those hobbits who arrived last in the Shire after the Wandering Days. Since those early years, the Boffins have maintained their status as one of the most prominent Eastfarting families. In fact, it might be argued that, since the departure of the Oldbucks in 740, the Boffins are peerless in that region. Vastly wealthy and unwaveringly respectable, the Boffin name is without blemish. The abnormal behaviour of Basso (1169-?) and Briffo (1170-?) Boffin should not be counted against the family.
Predominantly, most Boffins are found living within the Yale region of the Eastfarthing. This has been the ancestral home of the family for many centuries now. Unlike other clannish families, however, the Boffins can be found living anywhere in the Shire. There are a number of branches of the Boffin family, including the Boffins of Barleywick (which this author has the pride of belonging to), by which the kindred has exerted its influence across the Shire.
