Elufer At Work

  Elufer was sitting at the table with two aquamarines and a dozen of scrolls in front of her. She needed to work on stone while contemplating about another matter: the Orb.

  She took out a chisel from the pouch. It was old, yet a precise tool. She did not divert her eyes from one of the scrolls for a single second, as she was afraid to lose concentration and fail to repeat the intricacy of the rune design. ...The Orb could be used to communicate with Shemkel while he was away scouting - that was clear.

  Within few minutes, delicate shapes of Runes covered the larger aquamarine. Elufer unwrapped the toolkit. She spent a few seconds deciding which tools to take out. The Runes needed to have deep grooves, but not deep enough to crack the gem. She moved her fingers slowly and methodically. Aquamarine dust cloud began rising above her pointy ears, the dust started covering her silky braided hair, some particles tickled her sharp nose tip. Elufer’s lips were moving, although only another Elf could hear the words of incantation.

  After an hour, the runes still did not look completed. Elufer put the tools down on the table, and stretched. The next step of imbuement was to turn  Aquamarine Rune Stone into a fulgurite. And that required a long journey into the mountains…
