The beginning of a descent.

''Get out of the way, you little shit!''

The insults burned in Athessa's eleven year-old ears as she was pushed around the maket square. It was the same everyday for as long as she could remember. All because she was slightly different. Against the norm of the Rohirrim, she had been born with raven black hair. As if that wasn't enough to be the odd one out, she had pale green eyes of a weird tinge. She scared off children by looking at them, gave shivers to the eldests. People spread lies about her, how she was a killer, mad, a witch, evil, and so on. But it was fine by her. She always got comfort from her parents. So she stood tall as she bought her bread, ignoring the disapproving looks and hushed whispers.

''Hey, I heard something happened at her house...'' She heard someone say near her.

''Who's?'' Another replied.

''You know... Her's.''

''Oh...her... What happened?''

''I heard one or two people di-''

Athessa was already gone running. She knew they were talking about her home. As she arrived in front of the house, she saw a small line of watchmen blocking the entrance. She heard people talking everywhere around her in hushed tones.

''It was the parents...''

Hearing that, Athessa ran towards the house, before being held back by a guard.

''No one is permitted to enter, kid. Stay back.'' He said.

''They're my parents! Let me go see them! Please!'' She screamed, tears forming in her eyes. And still, the man held her back without pity.

''Stay back!'' He growled.

''My parents! Please! Let me go... Please...'' She continued, her screams turning to sobs of despair. The man threw her back into the crowd, tired of her. She fell back, crying, too weak to get back up. She watched helplessly as the guards came out of the house, carrying two bodies wrapped in blankets.

Long after everyone had cleared off, the house barricaded by all exits, the young girl was still sitting in the road, sobbing. And it was how they found her, when her younger brothers came back home, unknowing of what had happened, and unaware of the difficult future they were about to have.
