Cuilelass had hoped to return to Bree to see the humans she had come to care for. After awhile in the Misty Mountains in the cold snow, she returned to Rivendell to receive a letter from her beloved and one from her daughter. This made her rush to Bree, secretly excited to see them once again.
However, when she came to the Pony, he was there. And he ended it with Cuilelass, which hurt Cuilelass dearly. She had hoped to spend time with him, but instead she found he was ready to move on. But Cuilelass could see the logic in his explanation, she was immortal and he was mortal. He would die eventually and she would live on for the rest of eternity. The relationship was pointless and her love was illogical.
When Cuilelass went to meet her adopted daughter, another human named Nimeway, in the Pony, Nimeway bared horrible news as well. The death of Maydawn shocked Cuilelass, but as she has always done, she hid the emotions from Nimeway.
Cuilelass realized once more that her sorrow was illogical, every human died in the eventually. And it was Maydawn's death that brought Cuilelass to the realization that she would be forever alone with illogical emotions as long as she spent time among the humans. She finally came to the conclusion to say her good-byes to Nimeway and make her way back to Rivendell in hopes to never have to return to Bree.
