The entire flock had been startled; Molly hoped their flight might alert one of the nearby farmsteads. Her pursuers made a clash and clamor, their torches casting long bounding shadows ahead of her. Despite the danger, she found herself wondering if she might ever be able to beat her own shadow in a race. With a grin she decided that she damn well could and spurred Sunset onto even greater speeds.
