A wandering Hobbit's Diary.

Sitting here under this tree, I suddenly though of a use for this book, I could record my adventures! So I quickly fetched a quill and ink, and got writing.

So here I am a bit too late to start a Diary! When I am an Old Hobbit I may be regarded as a figure like old Bilbo! Lots of Hobbit in their Tweens go off adventuring before returning for their coming of age at Thirty Three, but I think I am the only one in a wile to see the great Rivendell! The Elves are a strange people, certainly. They seemed rather shocked to see a wandering hobbit, but they are increasingly common these days! I have decided that I must start to write these things down. I can at least write down all that has happened first, so that I can then keep a proper diary:

Ever since I met my Dear friend Nilawen, My adventures have been better than ever! I remember wandering through Bree land, not doing much for a long wile. I was quite good at archery really, and managed to hit enough to keep food in my cooking pot - although never enough, I still dislike only having Three meals a day!

Well, I carried on like that until meeting three ugly, warty goblins in the North Downs! I like to give anything nasty the miss if I can, so you can imagine my fright when they started running right at me! I managed to shoot one of the foul creatures, but the other two caught me. I was very frightened as they dragged me back to camp, jeering about how they were going to cook me! But their faces sunk quickly when their camp was ablaze and a group of grim faced Tall-Folk came charging up the hill at them!

One kind man gave me a small shield, and I have kept it to this very day! It was a shame that I lost my bow, but I have got a spear I name Thorn now. Many seem to think it funny that I carry a shield and spear, but it's lots less frightening to see a goblin run at you when you can stick a spear into it. Thorn is also a nice javelin for catching fish in the rivers - Although a fishing rod is better, they are far too long to carry around. Maybe I could keep a string and hook to tie onto Thorn...  But anyway, I've found them quite useful, and some kind friends showed me what to do if any nasty goblins come up to me again. I've even got a good shortsword, like Bilbo's Sting! I always wanted one, ever since he told us Hobbit children about his adventures. It's a long knife to men. I seem to remember someone teasing me about "Not slaying many goblins with a butter knife". It may have been Threland... Or was it Ardron? Anyway, it's a sword, and a mighty one too! I may ask Nilawen for some Elvish name to give it, to show how mighty my weapon will be when the goblins come charging!

But back to the story of my adventures! I continued to wander around, until that nasty Dagthirn caught me! He tried to ransom me to poor Threland! Somewhere along his line of allies there was a TROLL! I was taken to a strange city called Annumas Anuias Annuminas. But I got free! I ran and ran and ran, and found a strange group of people hauled up, hiding from the Trolls.

Nilawen and Ardron quickly came to my rescue, and we escaped on a boat, across a large lake. My Dwarf friend, Axalin, was suddenly nowhere to be seen by the way! The old scholar... A Dwarf scholar really does surprise me... Well, he was at my house studying! How didn't he notice I was gone? Anyway, he's gone back to the lonely mountain now... I wish I'd gone with him! Well, no. He was very annoying, and if we fall into a goblin trap like old Bilbo did, I'd be the one who had to fight off the nasty goblins I'll bet. Not that I couldn't, I bet my noble sword and Thorn would drive them off! But it'd be tiring.

Anyway, that is my adventure so far really. I've done many trips to the beautiful Rivendell, and I Even once reached Rohan! I returned swiftly over the mountains though! Many scary orcs and goblins and wargs are there, and we even had a short fight crossing the gap of Rohan! Luckily, I was in a large group of men who were returning to their homeland, and wile I think I held my own; I really had to admire their blade skills. My trusty steed was fast though, and I got a goblin with Thorn and even sliced a warg with my sword!

However, it was all very scary tiring, and I decided to go back very soon, as I have said. I was missing my fireworks, and having six meals a day. How does anyone survive on three meals a day for their whole life? Some of the men went on two!

Anyway, I do hope to find Nilawen soon. Threland doesn't seem too keen, but I plan to adventure to Moria! I heard Gungur talking of it once, and I think it is a worthy place to earn my sword a name! Gungur hasn't been around much, but he is bound to agree, and I just know Nilawen will want to!
