Rohirrim mustering in Ost Guruth (from the point of view of Rivendell)

Rohirrim mustering in Ost Guruth

Aeradin along with his sister Killandra were tasked as Maethor of the Warband to take some medicines and foodstuffs to Elder Fridrick of the ancient fortress Ost Guruth at the behest of Spear Captain Imieran one of the Officers of Imladris. The matter was just a routine one as Imladris was often in contact with the people who dwelled in Ost Guruth in an effort to maintain good ties. Lord Elrond had also realised over the years that by sending one of the elves now and again that way it gave the menfolk a major boost to their morale.

As the pair drew in rein as they rode through the gate house they were immediately drawn to the increased activity around the infirmary. Green clad guardsmen were stationed at the entrance way and more men were seen coming and going, many with light coloured hair which again set them apart. Killandra nudged her companion back to their task at hand and they both set their eyes to looking for Elder Friderick who was located near the well directing work on a nearby wall under repair. Tethering their horses to a nearby post they asked one of the labourers to unload the packs attached to the saddles and then strode across the open courtyard towards Friderick.

As they drew close to Friderick he turned to greet them with a broad smile upon his face. He told the duo that he knew they were coming for he could hear their laughter on the morning winds. This drew a bright smile from the pair, for it was well known that the pair always travelled together and that they were like chalk and cheese to one another. Aeradin had many qualities associated with his father Donhelm, where as Killandra was the reincarnation of their mother. Friderick gave them both a great hug for the laughter of the Greymare children was always welcome within their walls. With an arm around the shoulders of both Greymares he guided them towards one of the stalls where he offered them a cup of ale. Aeradin quickly drained his cup and held it out for more but was quickly berated by Killandra pointing out that there might be other matters here that Rivendell might be keen to learn upon. As Killandra finished her words all three pairs of eyes turned to the goings on at the infirmary. Frederick informed them that they had been there a few days and had travelled from the west, from Breeland. They had kept to themselves and seemed to be gathering supplies to move off again. They seemed a combination of military men and townsfolk and that many of them spoke a language which was not familiar to him. Killandra thanked him for the information and then the pair moved off towards the infirmary to see for themselves who these travellers were.

As they approached they could indeed see they were in the most part well armed and armoured. Many of their horses which were tethered nearby were very well tended for. No one challenged them as they walked about the infirmary at first till a woman clad in dark attire stopped in front of Killandra and spoke in a loud voice over some man who was causing a disturbance nearby. This woman whose name we later learned was Abellinda seemed to believe this man was with the pair and that we should take him to task. It was clear the man causing the trouble by what he was saying and the way he was moving about that he was disturbed in the mind. Killandra made it clear that the pair did not know who this man was, nor indeed had they met him before at which Abellinda walked off. No one else seemed to pay them any attention so they left the infirmary seeking one of the leaders of the warriors in evident.

Aeradin approached one of the green clad warriors and asked him a few questions in a friendly manner after which they were directed to a more mature warrior long in beard by the name of Ceobrand, he apparently is the Captain of the caravan. As the pair approached Captain Ceobrand he was in conversation with some of his warriors discussing matters concerning their movement westward. He greeted the pair in a neutral manner after which Aeradin explained that they had travelled to Ost Guruth from Rivendell in the west and that Rivendell would be keen to learn why such an armed force was making its way towards their haven. Upon learning that the pair dwelled in what he considered a fabled place and knowing that they dwelled among elves Ceobrands level of co-operation ceased. The man it seems is totally untrustworthy of elves! Not wishing to disturb the man any further and having got very little from their conversation the pair bid their farewell and left the Captain to go about the mustering of his people.

As the pair watched the caravan assemble Captain Ceobrand gave them a speech about seeking their homeland and that they will prevail. The pair watched as the outriders sped out the gate and who were then followed by the main party. One thing they did learn from their speech and that was that these riders hailed originally from Rohan for they spoke Rohirric among themselves. For both Aeradin and Killandra were both raised in Rohan in the household of Donhelm Greymare before driving northward so both could speak their tongue well. The last of the Rohirrim left the gatehouse of Ost Guruth turning their horses westward. The pair took their steeds out the back way through a hole in the wall and they then began to shadow the caravan whilst trying to come up with a plan on how to send word to Rivendell.
