Elves

Then Linglorel spoke to her Dúnedain lord:
„No, don't draw your shining sword,
And, for our love, speak not a word
Until I charm the dragon, else may all be lost,
And of this quest our lives yet pay the cost.”

Spring was sweet and crisp in the hidden valley of Tumladen. Summer was short and cool in the streets of Ondolinde. Autumn was just a passer-by for the cold winter season. Sinilatamo did not like the sudden changes of climate characteristic of Echoriath, remembering the mild temperatures of Vinyamar near the sea. He preferred to spend as much time indoors as he could when the weather decided to be capricious, especially when it threatened rain. If he could. That day, he made an exception on behalf of a friend.

Now the Elf-maiden was his happiness
And Ranger rhymed about her grace
And told her stories of treasures
Deep beneath the dragon's lair.

Till in the stillness of one dawn
Still in its mystic crown
The Elf-maiden she went down to the lair
And in the ice she's gone...

The Ranger came down to the lair
To call out to his dear
When there was no answer
He was overcome with fear...

The light of the Moon shone high in the sky, filtering through the window into the room. It hit a series of wall-mounted decorations of painted crystals, creating a fascinating play of light-streaks on the ceiling. Little Eärcalië watched, fascinated, the colorful display. Her mother, who was reading her a bedtime story, closed the book and smiled.

Year 2518 of Third Age, autumn

Clear voices rose and fell in the starlit air. One rose above the others. It was singing in the fair elven-tongue.

In gwidh ristennin, i fae narchannen
I Calar Ithil ed ardhon gwannen
Calad veleg, ethuiannen.

Everything ends.

The Lifescroll of Song is a compilation of folk songs and ballads compiled by minstrel Skarde from Dale, during the late reign of Eldarion, King of Gondor in IV Age. It details the common histories and legends from the Rhovanion, and is the source of history about that time. A original of the scroll was presented later to librarians from Pelargir. The copy was later taken to the great library of Erebor, and dwarven sages added some reliable parts.
