Background
Peathiel was born and raised in the city of Dale. It was closely attached to the Dwarven folk from Lonely Mountain whom supplied steels of all different kinds all crafted into all manner of Blades, Daggers and Halberds. She was a curious girl and often sat and watched as the weapons were forged and made.
She was fascinated by the glowing steel and sharp edges and she often dreamt about being a warrior protecting her lands. During the day she often played with her friends, her best-friend was called Ormi, the Blacksmith's son. Even though he was born with an disability that made him limp, he was popular amongst the others and Peathiel loved his laughter and smile. When they often got up to mischief, to her, that would be a perfect day for Peathiel. They had a very special and strong bond, and on her fifteenth birthday he presented to her a Halberd, a finely crafted yet large weapon. It was a gift he chose to give to her because he knew Peathiel loved elegant weapons; jewellery was of little interest to her.
A few years later, Dale was invaded by Easterlings during the beginning of War of the Ring. People took refuge alongside the Dwarfs into the mountains. Peathiel's father Valgard was the leader and captain, so her family was remained in the city. Ruthlessly the Easterlings burned out the civilian housing, their target to break the will of the leaders slaying them if required. Peathiel had no choice but to flee. The attack was swift and harsh everything burned in the Easterlings wake.. Peathiel did not know whether her family perished or survived, but she sensed they were safe and already on their way into The Lonely Mountain. Peathiel fled into the woods with Ormi by her side, they ran alongside the Forest River and she slowly approached the realms of Mirkwood.
They were tracked and hunted down by Easterlings that had a settlement right on the borders. One of the leaders recognized Peathel as the daughter of Captain Valgard, thinking to himself, she would be a perfect catch to lure her father to them. Since Ormi could not run, Peathiel had no choice but to support him. She ran as fast as she could with almost carrying him, but she could not lose the Easterlings from her trail. She chose to sacrifice herself by leaving Ormi behind in a safe place and took another direction trying hard to distract the Easterlings away from Ormi's sight. Her golden hair very noticeable, her ruse was a success. Facing her pursuers she swung her halberd in anger and wrath slaying four before the fifth caught her from behind.
His name was Ulvar, a man of evil and spite he locked her inside one of the prison caves within the Easterlings settlement. For months she was a prisoner, she did not understand what they wanted with her, and why they kept her without torture of punishment. The only glimpse of joy she felt was upon the sunrise each day. The few rays that pierced the thick bars of her gloomy cell. The rays warmed her face, it often felt like the touch of a warm hand.
Peathiel felt grew ever sorrowful, she was lonely, scared and she missed her family. She saw the top of The Lonely Mountain through her window and hoped her family had escaped., but she had no clue as to what had happened to Ormi. She passed her time, by fighting with the shadows, and worked on her strength. She had to stay active and strong to keep herself sane.
Peathiel's time of sorrow came to an end. Ulvar released her from the Dungeon and he told her to flee. He gave back her Halberd and told her to leave Dale and Lake-Town. There was too much unrest and danger surrounding those lands. So he told her to follow the Forest River to Anduin until she came to Rohan. She was puzzled by him. Why did he take her as a prisoner, and then let her go again? She knew something was amiss, someone or something had purchased her freedom.
She decided to follow the path he described for her. She did not trust the Easterling, but she no longer feared, her time alone hardened her spirit, she felt fearless though not reckless. Though now she had another motivation, to find Ormi. Together she thought, they might be strong enough to fight their way back and find their families .. This was the beginning of her journey from the East to the West.
