Nempnett is one of the oldest Shirrifs in the Shire, at 90 years of age he should really be enjoying his retirement but there is something indespensible about the old veteren. His knowledge of the hobbit lands, their history and their inhabitants is vast and bounders and shirrifs from all four farthings come to ask his advice on a weekly basis. He carries out his duties like a bear with a sore head but this belies a tender spirit lurking within. Over his career he has often taken young hobbits under his wing, turning them away from a life of petty crime and introducing them to gainful employment. Two recent success stories have been Bramblebar Meadowfoot the one-time apple scrumper turned beekeeper of some note, and Tambard Brindletoe, an unassuming hobbit who has now proved himself a valued addition to the ranks of the bounders.
