Bert is a well-spoken, well educated hobbit from a rather well to do family with a long and distinguished history. However, he is by no means arrogant indeed, he is a rather shy and humble chap. He speaks in a posh accent with a slight (what we would call Scottish) twang due to the fact that he is from the Northfarthing. He is very friendly, courteous and always curious. Physically he is relatively slim for a hobbit and has blonde hair and blue eyes (both family traits) in fact he is the spitting image of his Grandfather Herbert.

Background

As with practically all the Northtooks Bert hails from the Northfarthing, the town of Dwaling in Bullroarer's Sward to be precise.  As I'm sure you are aware the North-tooks trace their roots back to the famous Bandobras 'Bullroarer' Took himself. No doubt as a result of such distinguished heritage the Northtooks are known to be perhaps even more Tookish than the Tooks themselves. Our Bert is no exception though his mother, Daisy, is from the very respectable Northcotton family of Oatbarton which has given him a good helping of Hobbit sense to go along side his Tookishness.

Bert was born on the 29th of Foreyule in the year 1380 by Shire Reckoning. As a lad, when ever he wasn't helping his farther in his Inn, the Rose and Crown, Bert was usually found exploring the Northfarthing, listening to his Grandfather Herbert's songs and tales of far off lands and times or with his nose in a book. As he grew up this turned into a passion for history and lore. Interested in a wide range of subjects he is especially interested in the history of Shire pipeweed growing, beer brewing and song singing.

Now as a young bright hobbit Bert, having read every book in his Grandfather's library and explored every corner of the Northfarthing, has decided to visit his cousins in the south to explore the famous libraries of the Great Smials and the wonderful Mathom House in Michel Delving, not to mention hear new songs and sample new varieties of beer and especially pipeweed. Who knows one day he may even get as far as Buckland or even Bree! Strangely among hobbits he is a terrible cook however he is an excellent eater!
