Commonly known names
Cirionar (With the meaning ''Sea-faring noble''): His given father-name and the name he most commonly use when refering to himself. Birthed in the Falathrim haven of Eglarest during the First Age, he was given the name Cirionar by a father that wished for his son to follow in his footsteps and become a great seafarer.
Aralphen (With the meaning ''Swan lord'' or ''Swan noble''): His Epessë under which he is known among many of the elves of Mithlond. This most likely derive from his personal crest, which takes the form of two white swans mirroring eachother upon an azure background. This crest he proudly displays upon many of his robes and shields and even his personal belongings are often shaped to assemble this, among the sea-elves, revered bird. His fondness for swans arose after the founding of Mithlond, when he came to owe two of the birds his daughters life as they alarmed him of a great danger she was in. After her rescue he would, in gratitude towards the two swans, take them to become the symbol of his persona.
Background
Cirionar was birthed within the elf-haven of Eglarest early in the first age, shortly after the arrival of Finrod in Nargothrond. His father was of one of the noble bloodlines that served under Cirdan, the master of the haven, and his mother was a Noldor of Finrods kin. While young, he took a great interest in the sea and was most often found by the docks and aboard the ships belonging to his father, studying the mariners and sailors as they handeled the white vessels. He was also a very talented swimmer and felt at home within the waters surrounding Eglarest.
Like many others of the Falathrim, Cirionar came to befriend many among the Noldor of Nargothrond, the realm from which his mother hailed. From them he would learn much about the wonderous land beyond the western sea, but also of the more recent tragedies which had befelt it, with the exodus of the Noldor, the Kinslaying and the many crimes of Melkor commited while still dwelled there. Beyond this, he was gifted with knowledge from some of Nagathronds wisest minds, and taught many secrets about the world and the forces at work within it. Thus was ignited a spark within him that would push him to continue to pursue knowledge for the sake of learning, and a curiosity towards the world that is hard to satisfy, for each answer he recieves only comes to open up new questions to him.
As time passed, the world grew darker, and in the year 473 of the First Age, Eglarest fell to the armies of Morgoth. Its master, Ciridan, managed to escape the destruction along with many of his kinsmen, but all were not so lucky. Cirionar himself was saved aboard one of the ships that fled the harbor but both his father and mother fell during the battle, leaving him, still relatively young seen through the eyes of the elves, with the burden of leadership of the remnants of his fathers house. It was with great grief and the sadness in his heart that his ship accompanied Cirdans fleet, towards a new future; a place to call home where they could rebuild their lives.
