Lore is 5'4" tall.  She is shapely, agile, quick and quiet.  While at times her gear may be mis-matched in appearance, it is usually of good quality and her manners and speech seem to indicate that she is from a fairly well-to-do household or family.  She appears to be in her late teens.  When in her professional, working gear, she wears no jewelery, makeup or perfumes.

She fits well into nearly any social setting and can converse on a wide range of subjects.

Background

She tells people she is from Bree-land, though her speech doesn't alway have the sound of that land.  She is known by various names; Lore and Bell, for example, though none but her family know her real name.

She can often be found whittling when not occupied with other things, usually she ends up giving her carvings to friends and children.

Her people are a race of ancient lineage, claiming descent dating back to the Elder Days, many of them having travelled northward from the White Mountains by way of Dunland to settle at Bree during the Second Age.

Lore's family claims to have been in Bree when the Men of Twilight passed through and found a small village of huts at the crossroads at the base of the hill.  Her family and those tied to them trace their descent through the women, regardless of who the father may be, a mother knows her child and they suffer none to be known as bastards.

The women share leadership of the families with the men, though no decision regarding lands or war can be made without their consent, and their word is final.  The men recognise that the women's concern is the strength and survival of the family and act accordingly.

The gathering of knowledge has been the focus of the family since time immemorial, for they feel that only by the knowing of what is happening, can the family adapt to meet the changing of the winds of time, war and nature.  Scratch a lore-master of Bree and one may find that he or she is one of the family. For this reason, the children of the main families are always tutored from an early age, none of them leaving the bosom of their parents until they demonstrate the understanding of at least a second language and that they are healthy, fit and able to protect themselves in war to some degree.

Secretive and select in their ways, the families maintain an appearance of normality in Bree-land, adapting to meld with the people who have come to live in what they consider their lands.  There are two council's guiding them; The Uncle's and the Mother's.  The Mother's guard the knowledge and the young while the Uncle's seek that knowledge and protect the families, however, the men and women of the family are not tied strictly to those roles.  Both the men and women teach as well as protect the young and old of the family.  Though they do consider themselves apart from the bulk of the people of Bree, they feel that those who have settled there to make their lives peacefully are part of the land and under their protection.
